Post your binges Here to acknowledge them

Postby stee2437 » Thu Mar 09, 2006 4:57 pm

Next time I binge, Im going to force myself to write down each thing I eat. This will be an obstacle since I usually dont break that long in between each thing I eat and I dont have control or conscious thought about the process. From now on I will! Im writing it down and posting it so that I think about it and embarass myself by sharing. Then maybe next time Ill think twice. Post yours too if you want so I don't feel alone.

Last binge : Entire roll of chocolate chip cookie dough
no purge 1 individual supreme pizza
4 chicken quesadilla lean pockets
a bunch of crackers
lots of toasted bagel bread @ 6 slices
2 bowls of lucky charms
1 bowl maplebrown sugar oatmeal
2 wraps with ham slices
ice cream bar
1 pkg. Ramen Noodles
and ? thats all I remember, there was more though

I don't know if posting what you binged on here is a good idea. People might begin trying to beat another person in what they have eaten. Plus, a person might get ideas for different things to binge on.

It is however a good idea to do it for yourself on sheet of paper. Perhaps you could observe the list thereafter and tell yourself that next time you binge you will eat less.

admitting what you binge is REALLY hard to do though. REALLY hard to do. For now I'm going to allow this. If it helps the poster feel they have a safe place to talk about this..........I also am dealing w/ binging/purging and am seeking help. I meet w/ my dr. on Friday!

Stee.....you are not alone....what steps are you taking besides your journal to seek help for yourself?

I agree with Chucky. Posting your binges might make someone try to top your "record". Also, even though admitting you binge is important, it will only make you feel guilty.

This reminds me of when I was learnign to write, I had this little journal where I'd write my mistakes, like:

Not toosday, but tuesday.

My teacher saw this and told me that I should only write the correct spelling and not the error, or I would only be concentrating on the wrong spelling.

Similarly, I feel that you should only post your proper meals, and not the binges. That way you'll feel proud of yourself. Also, if one day you don't know what to eat, you can go through your posts to get healthy ideas.

That's a great turnaround-thought Avaya: That if we are to post anything it should be our proper meals.

However, now I am thinking that the person who originally started wasn't serious. Perhaps it was just his/her way of releasing frustration.

Let's see...my last "binge" was yesterday, but it wasn't the bad! Well, not compared to what I normally do. I had Chinese take-out for lunch (General Tso's). That was at, I'll guess, 2:30. Around 7:30, I was hungry again. I probably would have just ignored this, but I was drunk, so I ordered pizza. Normally, I will order a large pizza and eat it all, not even tasting, literally just wolfing it down, but this time I got a medium. I did get an order of breadsticks because they were only $1.99, but I only ate...I can't remember...two or three of them. They're the smaller ones, from Donatos.

So:
Chinese take-out (General Tso's chicken, steamed rice, two cream cheese crab things)
Half of a medium pizza
Half an order of breadsticks
Two cans of coke zero.
Vodka (sorry--not sure how much exactly.)

Not great, not at all, but hey--normally I would've eaten that entire pizza, with or without the Chinese earlier in the day.

I really like your idea! I mean it will make me feel bad but at the same time i will have the support of other people with the same problem. So i binge today after a couple of days struggling not to binge!
I ate my lunch ( chicken breast with beans and a salad) ehich it was sooo filling! And then it started , two mini pumkin pies, 1 package bisquits, 2 pieces of my apple cake and 3 lemon cookies. I ate them so fast i wanted to puqe for the first time! There are days i binge more but i hope i am getting over it !

Love this idea.
The past three days have been awful as far as eating goes. I'm doing a weight lifting program with my boyfriend and there's a meal plan, but I haven't controlled myself enough to follow it the past few days. When I go over calories, I'll write the excess in my food journal (which I've kept for more than 4 years daily) to burn off the next day in addition to my scheduled workout. Awful cycle.
Saturday: 4 full sushi rolls, large bowl of oatmeal w/ almond milk, almonds, honey, sliced apple
Sunday: 8 crepes with jam and farm cheese, boyfriend's kashi cinnamon sugar cereal 3 cups, almonds, almond milk, chai tea lattes, 3 sliced apples with spoonfuls of PB.

I don't want to be a wet blanket if this really is helpful. But the earlier posts in this thread suggested that perhaps listing binges might be encouraging a focus on the wrong part of the problem. And I haven't seen anything that suggests that guilt is a good motivating force to avoid binge eating. In daily life, guilt might even be a trigger. :(

I can see how posting here might be cathartic, but then what do you think the best way to move forward might be?

More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness.

For me, I'm not so sure this is a potential trigger. Itemizing every item I binged on would be humiliating, but I can see how it might help someone. That being said, I couldn't bring myself to read the entire contents of others' binges because it just made me feel guilty, as I've done the same and don't want to think about it in such detail again.
