Well, I still say I've got the top level covered without having the other levels. I don't see why that's not possible.

Maslow discovered that most self-actualized people do not have the same sense of humor as the average person. For example: they do not laugh at hostile humor (hurting someone to laugh), superiority humor (laughing at someone’s short comings), or authority-rebellion humor (laughing at unfunny, smutty jokes.

What do they laugh at then?

I'd laugh if the answer is absurdist and/or self-director humor. It would mean that I've actually been self-actualized this whole time without realizing it.

EDIT: okay, I can't spell apparently

What about irony? or is that laughing at peoples short comings too? your more likly to become self- actualized through not trying to become self actualized...

i don't think we should classify sex as an essential thing in life - you will die if you stop breathing, you will starve without food and so on, however nothing will happen to you if you don't have sex. I am quite familiar with that model, we studied it extensively in social psychology, the only minor change that i would make, would be combining self-esteem and belonging together, because i think they are interdependent.
everyone dies, but not everyone lives...
