Has anyone here tried hypnotism? I'm curious.

Yes, hypnotism can help you to remove those avoidant thoughts for yourself. It is very powerful tool. It is direct talk to subconscious mind.

Look for self-hypnosis in the internet, I bet you'll find some instructions for free. And it could help with your inferiority-complex. :P
"Man is by nature a social animal; an individual who is unsocial naturally and not accidentally is either beneath our notice or more than human. (...) Anyone who (...) does not partake of society is either a beast or a god."

i tried some ppaul mckenna cds... i gotta say it was great. first week or so of listening to a half hour recording 2 times a day made me feel like a different person. i dont think it is something for the long term but it really was a starting point for me. after that i kind of realised how i could be that i didnt believe before. its 100% worth trying but i have to say same with anything, dont expect a cure. but with me it helped big time.

Cool. I just came across some hypnosis stuff accidentally, and watched a few self-hypnosis videos. It really lessened my anxiety, I was very pleasantly surprised. I was just wondering if anyone had tried it in clinical therapy, with their doctor or therapist. From what I have been reading online, it is best used in conjunction with therapy, and best done by a professional and not by just anybody who says they are hypnotists.

I don't know if anyone's interested, but I thought I'd report on my weekend. I had quite a social weekend, something that is very rare for me. I met a bunch of new people, had to work at small-talk, etc, I did a bit of public speaking, and spent several hours at a time in social contexts. And guess what? I was ok! :D At times I began to feel anxious, but generally I was ok and enjoyed myself.

I think using the self-hypnosis mp3 along with practising affirmations over the past several days has made a difference. This is really good news. My anxiety level has decreased a lot, without medication of any kind! I'm going to continue listening to this mp3 each night, and practise my affirmations.

What type of hypnotherapy were you guys using? CDs? If so, which? I'm very curious. Been listening to Paul McKenna's Supreme Self Confidence. I'm not sure of its results on me, perhaps due to English not being my native language.
I'm a member of AvPD net, a group for avoidants. Let me know if you want an invite.
