People selling you crap.

Postby dxp » Tue Apr 21, 2009 1:51 am

Has anyone had the experience of sales people or solicitors(like car wash girls) pretending like they give a damn about you. This one time in the mall I tried to walk past this extremely pretty girl who was demonstrating skin care products(I'm a guy) but she started following me, pulling on my arm and calling manly names like baby and dude. What was so annoying was it was all fake just to sell her damn skin cream which I did not buy.

What amazes me, and pisses me off at the same time is how it's almost always the people who would have bullied and laughed at you if it wasn't for them selling their crap.

Some sellers are really persuasive and sticky. And many don´t know their limits between being polite and being too friendly.
Perhaps, she is only to be friendly in the way she knows.
I wouldn´t give too much importance.

Sounds like she's a prime candidate for selling sports cars and high end jewelry. I think one has to sell a fair portion of their integrity and soul to become a salesperson. I could never #######4 people to that extent without feeling terrible guilt afterwards, for pretending to befriend them and lying about the nonexistent merits of an overpriced mass product item made overseas.

It's very similar to how people manipulate you for their own goals/purposes while feigning a desire for friendship. The salesperson is usually much easier to spot though, because we expect charlatanical behavior from them. They do get a paycheck for it, after all (many times by commission). It's the integrity of the unsuspecting everyday societal leeches you really have to watch out for. I've known too many people who piss away their years associating with people who drain their resources, emotionally and financially, yet somehow can see through a salesman with no problem. We can turn away the salesman because we know its just a front for an overpriced product; it's the "friend" that isn't so easy to cut loose because a history develops, and things become complicated. Choose your products and friends carefully...

It's annoying isn't it.

But it's part of their job...

I just walk away and say no.

I don't like it however when they come to your door.
I ignore the door bell or knocks when i'm not expecting someone anyways... then they just leave little notes in my door.

Like everyone else, I've been hounded by these people.

They're the bane of my life when I'm in the city, particularly. I'm not sure if this is replicated elsewhere, but in Ireland, it feels like every city corner has someone trying to sign you up for a charity - only €15 a month for x,y or z.

While I dislike them intensely when I'm trying to negotiate my way past them - I do feel for them as soon as I get by. They're just trying to make a living ultimately.

There's the other kinds of course - the guys that call to your door:

I'm generally very very short with these people. One time a guy was very hurt because I was so short, but seriously... I'm not interested, please leave me alone in my hovel.

There's the telephone people -

Ok, these piss me off the most. Again. Just making a living, but, no I will not tell you my personal details.

There's the people in bars -

Not that I've been in one in the last 9 months, but I remember about 4 years ago, a really beautiful lady coming up to a bunch of us (a gang of lads) and telling us about some drinks promotion that was on, and I said something like "christ, I can only imagine how you feel, talking to a bunch of drunken idiots leering at you like an object".

Bleh.

They're all just trying to survive, but they make me uncomfortable.

I don't really believe in God. But I once almost went to some local church event because the girl who handed me the flyer was cute.

I was in the local mall a couple of years ago when this cutie asked me to try some hand products. Sea salt soap or some such thing. She was hot and had a hot Israeli accent, so I tried them. Then she told me it was $50 for a bottle. I told her that I got paid every other week and I could get some the next week. I didn't.

Hot chicks sell. that's been known for years. They do that with TV shows all the time - set it in Hawaii with chicks in bikinis. They do it to woman and girls too. South Park just did a parody of The Jonas Brothers that was a riot.
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.

Anybody seen that infomercial trying to get you to start a website and start selling stuff.

The babes on their with the cleavage you could see a mile away, lol. Like how desperate are they to sell their little money making scheme?

And I saw something on the news about some guy whose Barbecue joint was losing money, so he put up a life-like female mannequin wearing a bikini (and who was quite well endowed) in front of the joint, and his business increased by like 60%.
