I've noticed, I guess through the course of therapy >.>;, that whenever someone mimics my... quirks, that I'll get a nervous smile of sorts... I hate it >.>

I try not to hold it against people for telling me to smile, even though they have no idea why I am so depressed. It is legit good advice. You're more attractive when you smile, you feel better when you smile. Granted pretending you're happy can't fix serious depression but you will feel better than if you don't smile and just wallow in the pain and sob all day. You also bum people out if you seem depressed.

I agree people don't like being around the gloom and doom bunch; I've had people (literally) walk away from me because I was such a drain by being sulky. On the other hand I've done the fitting in and laughing off jokes that I didn't really find amusing and smiling cheerfully thing anyway. And every time I get aching face muscles.

I guess when you're down, on one hand you want to be alone and on the other you want someone to be there and listen. But doing so might turn your friends off and the cycle continues for a worse turn.

Ditto. Usually I don't want people to realize it whenever I'm quite miserable.

I am the same. I smile a lot and it keeps people from asking me my most hated qestion - "What's wrong?". Like i am really gonna tell them. I just smile and fake being normal until i get to the confines of my house. There, i dont ever crack a smile.

I get the "smile more" thing from my family more than anyone else. My grandma says she hasn't seen me smile since I was 10. When I am with my 'friends' i can typically smile because I'm intoxicated.

I had a girl at work ask me why I always look so miserable. That pissed me off so bad but I guess I got over it. I thought that was rude but I tell myself she's obviously ignorant and doesn't know anything about suffering. That sounds negative but I can't help it.

I am a very defensive person, normally when someone 'tells' me to do something, I get so angry because I think that no one should tell me how to act or look! But I dont show my anger to people, so I usually do as Im told. I smile to often, and I hate it, because its fake, its only what the other person wants me to do. People just suck. :x

I think I look older when I smile. NOT a good thing to me.

I don't understand how strangers can think they're being helpful when they say something like "smile, it could be worse" or even "cheer up". it really is annoying.
For some reason, a lot of the time when i do smile/laugh (around people who know who i am) someone will say, "Oh look, even _________ is laughing", which 1) naturally makes me want to stop for obvious reasons, and 2) is must completely stupid, b/c i swear i do laugh and smile sometimes. But it always happens.
It complicates the situation for me that I actually look worse when I'm smiling than when I'm not (I'm a bit off-looking; this is a truth, not an APD self-esteem thing).
