There is a book called Distancing: Avoidant Personality Disorder.

I'm fairly certain it is the only book in existance about avpd specifically. And it's expensive so I never ordered it.

Oh yeah... that book is a funny one. I've never read it, but I've seen some talk about it and they all say the same: That the author seems to have a bias against avoidants. While I will admit that I agree with some of the things he proposes, I think he should have focused more on the true problems of AvPD.

Anyway... I think I may just give the book a try, just out of curiosity, once I get paid.

I'm pretty sure that I am a selfish, self obsessed asshole.... Anyways it's too expensive and the library doesn't have it.

I, too, was strongly considering buying that book. I think there was a better deal on ebay, when i checked about a year ago. Books about avoidants are pretty much nonexistent. We' re just too boring for research. Even if there were quiet a few of them available, how exactly would they benefit an avoidant? All there is, are a bunch of examples and descriptions about disorder, but no solutions or suggestions. And now that we're talking about Distancing, i'm not quiet sure who that book was written for. A lot of reviewers stated that it's got no academic purpose at all. Yeah, i can probably relate to all examples written there, but it's not going to make me feel any better. Better read would probably be dating and pickup books, that tell exactly where and how, not that any of us are ever gonna follow that.

You can read a few pages from the book here: http://www.questia.com/library/book/dis ... kantor.jsp

The pages you can read for free are out of context and, granted, I didn't read all of it, but a lot of the stuff he said made me go what the ###$! Especially the page about sociocultural manifestations...I don't see what that has to do with AvPD in any way.
Avoidant societies are organized like avoidant individuals--according to the
premise that relationships come last, after God, country, and self.
Umm I don't believe in god and I hate my country, but I don't think either of those are really connected to AvPD either way. And yes I think about myself a lot because I have a PD but I wouldn't say that I put myself above relationships...quite the opposite in fact. :?
