I want to watch more but I'll have to find the third episode in english. :(

I tend to go for the subbed rather then the dubbed. I might be wrong here but is the drug use/hallucinations just device to get sato to explore his sub-conscious dillemmas? Its just a bit strange as drug use, especially hard stuff like Coke, is pretty rare and deeply frowned upon in Japan.
Does it ever specifically say that it is cocaine in the manga? I thought it just shows him snorting some powder and hallucinating hard core. Cocaine doesn't make you hallucinate. But there are drugs that you can only get in japan like 2c-b that are powders taken nasally and very strong hallucnigens.

I didn't know hard drugs are looked down on in japan any more than anywhere else in the world. But I do know that japan has a pretty big rave scene. They pop exctacy in japan like we smoke pot in the US. Also I read somewhere that some PD's predispose one to hallucnigenic drug use because of how they can really facilitate fantazy. It's why I use it. All the crazy $#%^ we talk about in some of the other threads? I've experienced $#%^ even more ridiculous when I'm tripping balls.

Then the NGE thing, that was actually pretty funny. I probably shouldn't have read it, though, seeing as how I'm still only 1/3 the way through the manga. I'd just watch the anime, since I'm lazy, but I can't find it anywhere that it isn't either extremely poor quality or with the English dubbing. Man, I could barely deal with more a few minutes of the first episode in English. I mean, English dubs can be pulled off. They're not always bad, but the NGE ones... god damn...

I'm sorry to tell you this but... the NGE manga hasn't been finished yet, last time I checked it was on volume 11 out of 12 planned volumes. It has been running for MORE THAN TEN ######6 YEARS, mainly because of huge gaps in production so it has yet to end, so you're probably going to be left in the cold without more episodes to read at some point. The manga and the anime are actually quite different (the manga is more explicit about certain things that are only found in the subtext of the anime) and they're supposed to have different endings too, yes, Evangelion is going to have one more ending and counting Rebuild of Evangelion (which is also going to have a different ending) that makes it two more endings to look forward to. Anyway, if you want to watch the anime for free, with good quality and dubbed, then I reccomend you torrent it. I know it takes some time to download but once it's done there's no better way to watch anime.

Topic resurrection. I was looking for the hikikomori word through the forum search.

I couldn't watch this anime when I spotted a girl who was most definitely going to "save" the main character from his avoidant lifestyle. That was not realistic to me and I felt like it cheapened the whole problem. I'd gladly watch an anime where the character has to fight on his or her own, like people in real life.

I suspect many real hikikomori dislike the anime for similar reasons. No savior girl or boy for them out there.

That show really hit home a lot but I didn't like the savior aspect of Misaki... However, Sato experienced a lot on his own in the show too so it wasn't just Misaki that helped. Also the other characters helped him a lot too.

Yeah I remember watching this one. The whole hikki stuff hits home of course. Having someone swoop in to save you (white knight) I think might actually be a pipe dream for some of us. It is for me. It might have cheapened the plot in some aspects but to be honest, having Misaki around (the girl) is something that isn't totally outlandish. She is also a character of interest herself since she isn't without a history.

Something similar but with a lot more cringe (or comedy) is Watamote. I can relate a bit to the loner protagonist and like I mentioned, there's cringe...of the legendary variety.

WataMote was also good. Not as good as NHK though.
