like you said, AvPD take years to develop. ... Telling me to stop caring what people think and expecting me to be able to do that is like having an anorexic come into his office and telling her to just go eat a damn sandwich.

it takes years to develop...
does anyone think that once you begin to consider that the characteristics which have made you who you are... and now these characteristics seem to fit into a category that you can be diagnosed upon... and then as you learn about the "disorder" you become even more tuned into those traits.... even to the point that it would make the condition worse??

sought've, there's no doubt in my mind that the more you cut yourself off the more avpd tendances will fester and the emotions associated with socialising become more extreme, this has happenned to me atm. if you accept you're fait as avoidant and dont challenge it, it will become worse for sure.

I dunno, it's definitely made me more comfortable with myself, which is obviously a pretty important thing for an avoidant. Maybe it let me fall deeper into some bad habits, but I probably would've fallen into them anyways, I just would have felt more like a freak than I do knowing that there's a disorder that other people have that explains all my symptoms so well.

Also, seriously emerald, where do you live? Probably nowhere near me, but after my third horrible appointment this morning, I'm only half joking when I say I'd be willing to travel to find a good psychologist.
