I am a cat person, not very fond of dogs since they tend to want too much attention. I used to have a cat back when I lived in my country but had to leave him behind when I moved to the US.

I kind of miss him. :( He was just too cute, even though he always acted like he didn't give $#%^ about me, except when he wanted food that is  . But I loved that about him too. Looking at him always made me smile on a sad day.

my cat is my life. He is the only one that i can actually relax around and not have to be constantly paranoid about what he thinks about me. He is also great company, as being in my bedroom every hour of the day apart from school (if i can't fake sick) can get pretty boring but he is great and will play with me for hours. Like you when i'm at my worst, he comes and curls around my head and licks my tears away until i can't help but laugh (you'll understand if you'd ever had a cat lick your face). He will happily sit on my chest and listen to my problems of the day. If is my best friend and only friend and i don't think i could get through each day without him.

My family (mum, dad and my brother) and I have had dogs and cat since I can remember. I don't have any pets at the moment because of the size of the place where I live. But I still see the family dog when I visited home. We don't have acat at moment. Our last cat just disappeared couple months ago.

Pets are great, god there can make you laugh. I must admit that there have been my only friends for years.

Ah, I've wanted to post a thread like this for weeks. :) I was wondering the same thing.

I don't currently have any pets, but did when I was a kid. My first pet was a bunny rabbit, completely white with red-pinkish eyes named "Snowwhite". She was really pretty. She was locked up in a too-small cage in a dark shed in our back yard. I regret not taking her out and play on the grass in the sunlight. Died of old age (my first encounter with death). After that I had a few other rabbits, including one that was mauled by an escaped dog that broke into the cage.

Had a few hamsters (jail breaking metal eaters) and a couple guinea pigs at some point as well. My mom would never allow them inside so we kept them in the garage. She pretends to have an allergy for furry creatures but I know that's a lie. She allegedly had other allergies that where healed by drinking 'paranormal magic water' she regularly bought from a psychic acquaintance (no kidding).

Some time ago I was attending a family barbecue party, and there was this cat preying on leftovers. I petted it for hours as I wasn't talking to anyone anyway. Must have been the first time I didn't want to leave a party. Made me realize how much I miss having pets around, and how lonely I feel.

I also regularly played with a cats in our backyard for while when no one was home, but my dad put electrified wire around the garden to keep them out.

My neighbors kids have a pretty rabbit too, but I never got near it. I don't want people to wonder "what's nextdoors weirdo doing around the kids" etc.

I have been thinking about getting a cat or rabbit, but my parents would never let them inside our home.

The only thing I don't like about pets is that they tend to die a lot.

My parents have always had a dog when I was child. I'm a total dog lover. Since I moved out for uni I don't have one, since I live in a flat, but I still see my dog when I visit home for the holidays. I realised how much I missed him when I moved out. Everytime I play the piano it howls and tries to sing, which at first was special because I had never seen something like that occur, then it got annoyingly irritating because I couldn't concentrate, and now it's back to finding it awesome. I always look forward to seeing him now. My mom tells me how sometimes he looks confused when he goes to the study to see if I'm there or sits next to the piano waiting for someone to play :( so I told my dad to play when he does that. haha

I've had small pets such as rabbits, budgies, and a hamster as a child. Basically pets that went about in their own little critter lives.

Since a child I have always wanted a dog. My parents would always say "When your older, blah blah blah". Anyways I have found a dog I'm interested. I have a question for dog owners. The dog I have in mind is fairly dominant and stubborn. Would you think someone with AvPD would have a problem with this? Also this dog needs a lot of socialization. I don't have many friends would this also cause problems?

I was not going to get another cat, but when I was living with my father a white cat plopped down in front of the house and dad fed him. So we ended up adopting him. It's not that I don't like cats. I had a cat when I was a kid and had to take her to the vet to be euthanized when she got cancer while I was in college. It was too traumatic for me. I cried for weeks and I still feel sick when I think about it. The cat I have now is getting old and I worry about him.
