trouble saying peoples names

Postby Emily4747 » Wed Sep 05, 2018 3:42 am

I've always had trouble calling people by their names. like if someone says "hey emily!" I've always wanted to be able to say hey and their name but all I can ever get myself to say is hey. every time. I also just feel uncomfortable calling certain people by their names idk its weird just wondering if anyone else has experienced this as a part of avpd or if thats just me lmao

I've done this for a long time too. I don't think it's specific to avpd though; I can see it happening from social anxiety and shyness too.

I also have problems with this.

For me, in some situations, it feels like sometimes using a person's name is too intimate.

Same with the touchy-feely way people always seem to be pawing at each other.

I get people at work introduce themselves while I am doing a sale with them- and they want to know mine in return. I have absolutely no need to know their name, and feel there's no need for them to know mine. I talk them into purchasing our products, they pay me, and I generally have little further contact with them, because 90% of them are holidaymakers. They do seem to expect that because I served them last time, at peak visitor time where we can see up to 600 people through in a day, that I would remember them though (umm...no). And their use of my name multiple times within the conversation feels absolutely unnecessary, and way too personal.

Outside of work though, people who I've just met I often don't remember their name. It will take me several interactions with them before I can remember their name, unless they have a name the same as someone else I know or I can make some kind of association with it. Until I do remember it, I'll find ways to avoid using their name.

For a while I waited tables in one of those places where I had to go through the whole "Hi, my name is naps and I'll be your server" thing, which gave my customers license to call me by my name, sometimes incessantly. And yes, I found that intrusive. It was good incentive to learn how to remember people's names, as my tip depended on it. In a professional setting, however, I find it easier to use people's names than with casual acquaintances. Or even friends. Fear of intimacy, I suppose.

I also have a bit of a problem with recognizing faces.

I don't have a name problem.except if i forget sometimes what is their name but i don't think you mean that.
Now that you mention that i think i might have
a pet name problem.i love when people call each other with terms of endearment and for some reason i think is not easy for me to express this kind of too much affection and cuteness easy although i like it. I wonder if it is a problem with intimacy the root of it.
But i like it when others do it to me

I used to hate my name.actually in work i hate when customers ask my name like they want to be friends and i have to tell.especially if i don't like them.###$ off i don't like you,i talk to you because i get payed you don't need to know my name.
I think is intrusive too.also when customers want to hug me ew i want to say i don't even want to hand sake .except if i like them but i usually don't .
I hate how social you need to be in jobs i feel is intrusive

When you forget someone and you try to talk to him without using a name.lol
I am trying to think how often i use names when i talk to others.i don't think is too often.rare.
I think mostly it is when someone is too far away and i have to scream his name to come.
