I get people at work introduce themselves while I am doing a sale with them- and they want to know mine in return. I have absolutely no need to know their name, and feel there's no need for them to know mine. I talk them into purchasing our products, they pay me, and I generally have little further contact with them, because 90% of them are holidaymakers. They do seem to expect that because I served them last time, at peak visitor time where we can see up to 600 people through in a day, that I would remember them though (umm...no). And their use of my name multiple times within the conversation feels absolutely unnecessary, and way too personal.naps wrote:For me, in some situations, it feels like sometimes using a person's name is too intimate.

Outside of work though, people who I've just met I often don't remember their name. It will take me several interactions with them before I can remember their name, unless they have a name the same as someone else I know or I can make some kind of association with it. Until I do remember it, I'll find ways to avoid using their name.
