I hope it all works out. I am in the process of deleting my fb profile. It takes 2 weeks to do that. I had a similar situation as you did with the WhatsApp lady and felt like if I didn't log in every.single.friggin.day people got upset. I decided I'm wasting too much time there with people I don't know and will never know. So awhile ago I created a new account and I'm only following pages with info that's of use to me, like science and health stuff and one other small group. I was starting to get really callous to people's troubles and just feeling annoyed plus all the eternal bickering. And all the people who would be begging for prayers when they have a hangnail or something. Since I'm an atheist it's always been annoying but I guess I just reached my limit.

Anyhow, I think you've been very polite. If she gets offended it's not because you weren't as gracious as you could be.

Thanks, skyflyz - there's some comfort in knowing it's not just me who feels like that about social media! I haven't deactivated my accounts yet, as I've been sick all week & haven't been able to think about it, or feel up to fending off worried messages from family & friends. But I do think your idea is a good one, and probably something I shall do in the near future.

As for WhatsApp Lady, she was fine about it - she said that if I felt like a chat, I knew where she was - and I will catch up with her in a day or two, as I said I would.

All the FB posts begging for prayer or demanding we add Amen to a post about a three-legged cat or whatever do my head in too, and I'm a Christian lol! Lot of nonsense!

I check fb once a month or so. I almost never talk to anyone. There is one guy who used to post here.
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.

Thanks, Parador - I think FB has its uses, the trouble comes when you're on it 24/7 getting enmeshed with strangers and their lives. I'll probably start again with my account, and just add family and "real" friends (a very short list lol!), and remain in a few groups I find useful.

Another worry about FB is the privacy concerns - it's pretty much a giant data-mining exercise. As someone once said (can't remember who!), "If a service is free, then you're the product." I don't like being a "product", particularly if it's done underhandedly!
