Cheap Chiese crap almost killed me!

Postby Parador » Sat May 30, 2015 3:40 am

Had a leaking tire on my new car. The shop said the belt had slipped and should be replaced. I said give me something inexpensive for the summer and I will get some good all season tires in the fall. I didn't even check to see where they were made. I see chinese product like apple juice or canned scallops and avoid avoid. But I got hifly tires. Got 100 miles and BOOM - big metallic explosion of the steel belt rupturing on the interstate. I managed to pull over. When I looked closely at the tires I saw 'made in China'. Got towed back to the shop and said never sell me Chinese crap ever again. Missed the symphony. Friggin' Chinese made me miss the symphony.

One use products? It sounds familiar to me.
I bought a toaster and it gets burnt with the first toast.

I tend to waste money in the car bc I hate being stuck in the middle of the road and people looking at me.

Yeah, that stinks. But at the time I was just glad to be alive. That tire really exploded - like a grenade.

Holy crap! I'm glad you are OK Parador... wow scary. I guess it's a good lesson to us that where safety is concerned, extra money should be spent. I don't know where my tires were made either!

Last night I did some research on safe cars. I have a pickup truck right now, a supposed small one, but I have trouble driving and parking it. The damn thing handles like a fullsize pickup truck, which I've driven. You know, trouble making tight right hand turns... Plus, I am a bad driver. If they ever come out with a car that does the driving for you, I'd be willing to spend a lot of money on it.

I'm looking at either a Subaru Forester or Volvo XC60. Both would be expensive with all the safety stuff on them, plus I demand either all wheel drive or 4 WD. I'm too chicken to go offroad but really like the thought of doing so sometime.

Wow, that sounds scary Parador. Glad you are safe.

Are they willing to offer you any sort of replacement/warranty? Not that you'd want those ones again.

I have AAA Premiere so the tow was free. I will contact the company that made the tires and tell them that they should reimburse AAA for the tow. The dealer who sold me the tires put new american made tires on with no charge. They said they would bill me for the difference in price later after they have filled out all the paperwork they need to do to inform the transportation department of the incident. They say they have never seen this happen before. The tires they put on made it through 500 miles on the weekend. So far so good. They aren't great on hydroplaning though. I will have to put more thought into what I will get in the fall for an all weather winter tire. Right now I'm thinking I should get some expensive Michelin Tires.

And I missed a really good concert because of this. They were performing the Testament of Freedom by Randal Thompson. A rarely performed piece - for some reason.
