AvPD without any physical anxiety symptoms

Postby lala2 » Sun Jul 02, 2006 3:13 am

I'm very convinced that I have AvPD but I don't suffer any physical anxiety symptoms such as panic attacks, butteflies in tummy, etc. I just get majorly stressed and worried, that's all. Is anyone else like that?

Hey,

Yes I am like this - You don't need to have panic attacks or butterflies in your tummy to be AvPD. Perhaps as you grow older with the disorder it becomes easier to manage.

To the extent I feel nervous or butterflies in tummy in connection with things like public speaking, I think I fit in a fairly normal category. I don't like things like that, but I can do it, and have to from time-to-time for work. It's social/friend relationships I have trouble with; feeling unwelcome in groups unless I have been specifically invited and even then second-guessing whether my invitation was sincere or based on guilt or pity. I have been withdrawn for such an extended period now, I really don't get much in the way of invitations at all. Anyway, if you avoid people out of fear of rejection and are constantly monitoring everyone else's conduct and looking for any sign of rejection, you just might be an avoidant. Here's the best site I've found, read about it: http://www.tljones.co.uk/apd/apd.htm
