movies and songs that are happy and positive themed always get me down, because i feel that i can't relate to them and i never will...and then i start thinking about everyone else and how they're all happy together while i am in my own separate world or something...but anything slightly morbid or negative makes me feel happy, for some reason it justs feels comforting to me to watch movies where people are in bad situations, probably because it makes me feel like my life is valid enough to make a movie about, or something stupid like that...and listening to bands like garbage always makes me happy....

I realize now that I've been avoiding tv shows or movies lately that involve relationships, etc. because they depress me. As much as I used to like happy endings, now they just depress me. I can't even watch some of my favorite movies that have happy endings where all find love and live happily ever after. Yeah, I know, those kinds of things aren't very realistic.

As for bands, I like the sound and lyrics of Suicidal Tendencies. Their depressive tone appeals to me.

hmm maybe i'll watch more of those western movies.. might be good and give me a "positive image of my situation".. but i've been reading on some famous criminals (through wikipedia, crimelibrary etc.) and most of them seem to be loners who also like the "lone ranger" stereotype they see on tv. oh no..

(btw these are just opinions)

the movie amelie made me depressed for like a week.....i don't know why but it just really got to me for some reason.......i think it's because things never "work out" like that for me.....or something......

but then last week i had a free pass to see final destination 3 and that made me happy because i am so negative that seeing people being killed is the only thing which i see as being worse what i am living....hehe i know it's sick, but at least i am not being impaled on things.....

I've never seen Amelie so I don't even know what it's about. Your post made me laugh because the last movie I actually saw was when I rented Hostel. Can't say it made me happy but I did think to myself, wow at least I'm not being tortured.

I'm very fond of tv drama, because, if it's done realistically, it allows someone like me to get to know another person (even though fictional) and feel involved in their life without the difficulties associated with social interaction.

Fictional events don't have a lasting effect on me. Sure, during an episode on occasion I may come close to crying for someone, or being happy for them or angry at them, but when it's over, I'm always able to shrug it off. I actually like that, the ability to just experience some emotional turmoil I don't generally have in real life, and then just flip the switch to return to my own uneventfull existence. It beats having to be sad about real personal problems.

Well, I think it's pretty normal to get choked up by movies and music. Lilo and Stitch still makes me sob...
I don't think I've ever cried because of the lyrical content from a song. I've cried to songs, but it was just because I was listening to music while I was already upset.

However, when I watch TV like American Idol tryouts or any kinds of reality shows where a person goes on and looks like a complete idiot, I get an overwhelming feeling of embarrassment for the person who people are ridiculing though their TV screens. I change the channel quickly so I can shake the embarrassing feeling.

i can relate elimenopee. Some songs are really moving (emotionally). i especially find some old songs to be so since the lyrics narrate a touching story. also since i'm unhappy about my life/ashamed some songs make me feel more guilty (ex. incubus - "don't ever let life pass you by...").

also i think simon's too harsh. he indirectly calls some people idiots. it's his job to criticize but not necessarily insult. he basically says, "this one sucks but this other one's better". he makes me feel that there's no equality in this world, there's a hierarchy. and everyone looks forward to his words too. he may be a good judge but he's still a sociopath in some way. wow life on earth is tough.

About songs that make you feel guilty about your life so far, I have that with Muse's "Butterflies and Hurricanes". The first two lines and the last verse especially:

change everything you are
and everything you were

...

don't let yourself down
don't let yourself go
your last chance has arrived

When I listen to this song I always think "Yes, I must change". But I never do. :(
