have any of you had any positive results from being on medication? i've tried a lot over the years and none of it has really helped at all...my ex-psychiatrist wanted me to go on paroxetine (not sure if i spelled that right), but i'm not anymore because i googled it and it causes weight gain in a lot of people, so i'm not even willing to try it, because i hate how i look enough already, any small change could push me over the edge i think...

What exactly was your psychiatrist's diagnosis? I was diagnosed with OCD, anxiety, and depression about 18 months ago and was put on Lexapro. It took about three months for the effects of the medication to begin working so these things take time.
You must remember that no psychological medication is going to just make you better. They should be used in conjunction with therapy or counselling. The real work is done by you, the sufferer.

my diagnosis is basically just avpd...i know i need to do therapy as well, but i tried and i just couldn't do it, i can't even handle talking to anyone lately, even if it's for my own good...the only reason i even wanted to try medication again is because it may help me to be able to keep my job, which i'm worried about a lot at the moment. i don't know if it will help enough, but i thought maybe if i was on medication it could help me to be able to not freak out so much when i'm around people and out of the house...or something...

Well, Anti-Depressant medication would certainly help you to not "freak out so much" when you are around people. They have calming effects. To get that type of medication you need to go to a doctor though.
