Need some help? please

Postby Lauren183 » Tue Mar 20, 2012 10:20 pm

I have done a few of these online tests for autism/ aspergers over the last few years after my mums friend who is a special needs teacher said I show signs of having it. And the scores have always been really high and I never went to get it diagnosed because it wasn't effecting me at the time. But recently I've noticed it getting worse and worse, its effecting my relationship because they think I'm being mean but I don't realise what I have said is mean. I struggle at college if its really noisy I can't concentrate, I'm having trouble finding a job because I can't communicate very well with future employers. I have 0 friends mostly because they tend to use me then drop me and I don't realise they are doing so.
Anyway my girlfriend told me to get it checked out because she is at the end of her nerves now with how I act even though I don't realise it.
So I done an online test and once again the score came back high so I done a different one and the results didn't really shock me as when I was reading the symptoms I realise i had practically every single one.
Your Aspie score: 177 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 21 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie
I have looked around at other results and mine seem pretty high. I'm just coming for advise and support really. My doctor doesn't seem too convinced though, she thinks I would have been diagnosed as a child and I'm 20 in august.
So any help or advice would be great thanks :)

Your scores are high. I don't think you would have necessarily been diagnosed when young. Could you ask your doctor to refer you to a specialist on Aspies then you could get a definite dx.

I know someone I think has Aspies, well he ticks most of the boxes on the one line tests but I'm not sure as he's never been officially 'labelled'.
He was referred to a therapist when he was at school as his behaviour was disruptive.

His T asked him "Who are the most important people in your life?"
He couldn't answer, he didn't know how to decide.

She gave him buttons all different colours and sizes and told him they represented the people in his life. He was to line them up in order of importance.

The first button was a large brown one (the most important person) = his step father who he does not like at all.
The second a smaller brown button = his father who he lives with and gets on with.
The next a pink button = his mother who he visits occasionally
The last button his = grandmother who he loves most, she has a soft spot for him and he spends much of his time with her.

Confusing. Why was step father first. The reason??

Step father is captain of Joe's football team, and Joe is obsessed with football, totally obsessed.
His mother? is the treasurer of The football team.
His father likes football.

Grandmother, who he loves? Well, she was last because she does not like football.

Joe explained he had no idea how to do the task, the only way he could decide was to relate the people to football.

Does that indicate Aspies, I'm not sure.

Thanks :)
Yeah I went and she said she will write a letter to get me referred to specialist which is great. But her first answer was you would have already been diagnosed which hurt because I know something isn't right.
I just feel like I'm dealing with this alone. My girlfriend gets frustrated with me sometimes which is understandable and she doesn't know enough to be able to talk to about how I feel and my mum is well she is trying not to talk to me because she doesn't want to set me off or upset me which is rubbish.

I think there are many Aspies undiagnosed, not all are identified when young. Your Dr is wrong on that one.
Nonetheless I'm glad you have been referred to a specialist.
Keep me informed!

I don't really think you need some specialist, you are not an Aspie, it's just your belief, It would be more helpful for us to understand what really bothers you is it that people accuse you for being mean, if you can briefly describe some instances. Just don't be overly worried. Go somewhere open and free space, fresh breezes streaming, relax for sometime and and when you're able to rethink, you will get your solutions. Ask yourself what's your problem, analyze and then search for a solution.

You may want to go to socialization classes. This can be a one on one therapy or in a group. The only benefit of getting a dx (here in the US) is that the insurance will only pay for certain therapies if you have a dx. My son took a year of socialization therapy and it helped him so much.
