Epileptic seizures

Postby Taraterm2 » Thu Sep 08, 2005 1:23 pm

Hello, Id like to introduce myself. I'm Tara, babyboomer Mom to Alex who is 16, austic and operating largely on a toddler level, although he always surprises us with his independence and good behaviour. Recently Alex was diagnosed with epilepsy and we have been considering treatment....but so many of the drugs seem to have side effects....Alex has had 2 clonic tonics in 2 months, and EEGs show he's seizing once an hour on the left side of his brain. I'll be honest, I'm finding it hard not to cry. We have come so far and worked so hard and he was doing so well.....now we get hit by this. Any thoughts????

Complex Seizure Disorder

Postby Lacey » Fri Jan 13, 2006 5:59 pm

Hi, I have a 7 year old son named alex who is Autistic with a Complex Seizure Disorder. I also have 3 other children. My son has had numerous EEG's and MRI's to find the cause and source of the siezure activity without any luck. He has been on a variety of anti-convulsant meds, so far nothing has worked. He has a wide variety of seizures some that can't be explained or labeled. I underatand your delima, these meds can have really bad side effects and can actually make the situation worse. My son is low fuctioning and his mental state is that of a 9 month old. It may take a lot of specialists in order to get on the right track. Good luck and hope you find the right road. Lacey

Ausim is not a disease all by itself. It is only visible symptom of many underlying unistablished disorder many of them is of genetic origin and quite rare.

The truth is unique almost in any given case.
What to do - investigate.
There is nothing to do with damage that done in childhood.
Seizures is overactivation of GABA brain system.
So but I can suggest the following.

(1). Test your son for peroxisomal disorder (there are about 20)
The best place is Kennedy Krieger Institute.
peroxisomal That may be the undelying case, may be not.

(2). If not or anyway you are willing to try, try Ketogenic Diet
also known as Dr. Atkin's diet (google it). But it can be harmful if he has peroxisomal disorder. true.

(4). Benzo tranquilizers - not a good choice (addicitve). FINLEPSIN is one them that has no side effects.

3. Special supplements such as NEURO NECTAR (as example) and I think there can be much better look here
