Not sure if it fits

Postby Cpt » Fri Sep 16, 2011 1:58 am

Just trying to see if ADHD fits. I may go see someone about this. There is definitely something wrong with my habits and it stems from procrastination due to perfectionism/fear/slothfullness.

Common Behaviors and Problems of Adult ADHD

The following behaviors and problems may stem directly from ADHD or may be the result of related adjustment difficulties:

Chronic lateness and forgetfulness. Yes
Anxiety. Yes, I am quite introverted. I do an OK job of hiding it. My anxiety is compounded by procrastination, but it is sort of the anxiety that drives the procrastination sometimes because it makes things seem like a bigger hurdle than they are, due to an expectation of perfection or something. So, I will procrastinate preparing for a presentation because it seems scarier than it actually is, in my mind(anxiety). But if I did prepare well, then I probably would not have as much anxiety.
Low self-esteem. Yes
Employment problems. No but I always feel like I am underachieving due to procrastination
Difficulty controlling anger. Not really
Impulsiveness. No
Substance abuse or addiction. Internet addiction possibly, but I dont know. More like an addiction to procrastination
Poor organization skills. Yes, due to procrastination. I know how to be organized but that is just another thing to put off...
Procrastination. Duh
Low frustration tolerance. Not sure.
Chronic boredom. Not really, I feel overstimulated
Difficulty concentrating when reading. Sort of, but its a new phenomena. When I read something I really want to read then I can focus. Its only been since the end of college and the beginning of grad school that I've noticed a difficulty focusing on reading, but I think that stems from procrastination not typical ADD.
Mood swings. When tired or hungry I get anxious and sometimes depressed, but I tend to starve myself(put off eating till the last minute) because I am so busy
Depression. Not really, usually when I feel bad its because of hunger or fatigue
Relationship problems. No

School-Related Impairments Linked to Adult ADHD

Adults with ADHD may have:

Had a history of poorer educational performance and were underachievers. High performance, but I still feel like I have underachieved because I know how badly I have procrastinated
Had more frequent school disciplinary actions. No
Had to repeat a grade. No
Dropped out of school more often. Never

I havent met a deadline I couldnt miss. I dont remember an important deadline that wasnt preceded by an all-nighter. The more important the deadline, the more I will focus on every other thing that needs doing. You can tell I have important/critical deadlines when 1. my place is clean 2. I am posting like crazy, on forums like this one...

Ritalin helped me and I knew within an hour of taking my first pill that it was an important piece of the puzzle.
I never gave anybody hell! I just told the truth and they thought it was hell.
