Hi folks
I'm usually over in the AS forum but I've got to go for a ADD assessment soon and unfortunately I already know I've got it.
Can someone tell me what the effects medication has had on your gifts? Are you still noticing things to the same standard as before i.e. pattern recognition, shapes, memory, vision etc or is there a detriment. Also has anyone with gifts come off their medication and found their gifts didn't return?
Thanks
(I'm going to put this up on wrong planet too)

Not if managed correctly. When manage properly by a competent and caring psychiatrist or neurologist (not primary care physician), meds can take the edge of the most debilitating symptoms. If the meds make one a zombie, then there is a problem. This is why it is essential to follow up with the prescribing doctor in terms of med monitoring.

I am pretty new to the AS Forum and this one too but I wanted to reply to your post because of your topic and content. My situation sounds a bit similar just in the reverse. I've had ADHD diagnosis for quite a while now. Have been seeking AS assessment but they are very expensive in my area and I am sure I have it simply due to the broad range of AS traits that are quite noticeable by myself and by other people (who have all made a point to tell me in one way or another) all since childhood (also ADHD/ADD and AS are known to be co-morbid). I have taken ADHD meds without any detriment to my pattern recognition, technology, and creative gifts. I have gone off meds due to cost when switching jobs since the generic meds have made me a bit physically ill. On or off meds no noticeable change in my gifts. Just that on meds, my daily routines as well as my emotions are more manageable and I am much more productive. It is important to have a good doctor who is familiar with ADHD/ADD med management and to have the time to get used to them. Different ADHD/ADD meds address different needs. I may also post this on the AS Forum since this topic was posted several months ago.
