Effexor XR for adult add?

Postby Ahmed64 » Sun Jul 13, 2008 7:52 am

Hello.
I'm new to the forums.
I was wondering if anyone knows or has themselves used Effexor XR for the treatment of ADD/ADHD?
I took Adderall when I was 16 for several months and it made my attention span just a little bit better, and it made me very angry and irritable.
I'm on Effexor XR right now for OCD and Generalized ANxiety Disorder. I was hoping that my ADD symptoms would improve...but I haven't seen any changes yet. I've been taking the med for over a month now, currently at 115mg (last week it was 75mg). And I am hoping to go to 150mg. I am wondering if anyone felt more focused or less impulsive on 150mg or more?
I really don't want to take more than 150 mg because there could be some bad side effects at the higher doses.
Overall though, I love this drug.

Hey,

For my anxiety and OCD I was put on Lexapro, and I didn't notice any effects for a few months. I fell into the same trap as you back then too: I waited around expecting noticeable improvements to occur. If you do that, you won't notice a thing! Your Effexor tablets might take just as long as my Lexapro tablets to become effective. You must not just wait around for it to happen though. Rather, just get on with your life, get into the routine of taking your medication, and try to forget that you even have a problem.

In the months to come, you will gradually begin to notice that certain tasks have become easier for you to cope with - that's the Effexor working!

I hope this helps.

Take care,
Kevin

I believe that Effexor is used to help treat adult ADHD.
Of course it's always best to dicuss it with your doctor.

Good luck.

Hello.
Yes, it is used for ADHD,but as I said I have not seen any improvements. I did biofeedback for a while and I find it only works when you are constantly going to sessions and it doesn't stick, that's just me though.

I'm hoping someone else will reply who uses Effexor Xr for ADHD and it has helped them...
