Trouble finding objects.

Postby funkenstein91 » Tue Jan 17, 2012 2:20 pm

Not sure if this is something that's part of AS or just a personal quirk, but I can not see things I'm looking for, even if they're right in front of me in plain sight. I'll spend half an hour looking through the pantry for something even if it's in the front. I lose papers all the time and somehow, even when I flip past them, I don't realize it. I wouldn't mind it so much if not for the fact that people are dicks about it when I can't find something they ask me to bring them.

Ya, I do that alot. " I cant find the ketchup" "did you check the fridge door?" "yes, I did" *mom comes to look* "Its right here....in the fridge door."

happens more often that I would like.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it's an aspie-quality though. I should really talk to one of my professors about this stuff. I've been in this major long enough to know which are the good ones now.

I´m famous for this. It happens to me quite a bit, even more so when there are many objects in sight. I often hold something in my hands while desperately trying to find the very thing I´m holding. I´m the type of person who would call you to ask for your number (despite disliking the phone).

:D the same happens to me! Also, if I put something down for two seconds I suddenly lose it because I forget where I put it seconds earlier. . . Even when I find something I forget I found it the start looking for it again. Its very strange, but my family find it comical :D

This sounds very familiar, but I'm not sure if it is an Aspie thing or not (- I'd be interested to know though).

I am famous in my family for missing obvious things right in front of me ... it doesn't happen all the time, but does cause occasional amusement on all sides.

My "speciality" is putting something valuable in a "safe" place and then completely forgetting where it is. This is less amusing and has led to wasted hours finding things. I guess any burglar would have a tough time at my house though :)

Yeah, same.

I'm always 'losing' my phone and lighter, usually when I'm in a rush to leave the house or catch a bus, usually ends up running around and panicking a bit, if I'm not in a rush I'll just get more frustrated the longer I can't find it. Always thought it was pretty normal and not related to Aspergers, but the rest of my family don't seem to do this, or don't react the same to not being able to find the thing anyway.

Yeah my "safe" place is usually too safe too, haha.

I constantly find money in places I would not expect it to be.

Agreed! I have a collection of back-up drives for my computers ... each time I lose one (usually after coming back from holiday, so I've had ample time to forget), I have to get another. I also put things away (I'm quite a tidy person) and then can't find them again. This is not terribly popular when it's someone else's stuff  The thing is other people now assume I've lost their stuff by putting it away, even when it wasn't me!!! I have a frighteningly organised filing cabinet though!

I never find money :(
