I have a friend, and he's been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and he says that when he was little he was dianosed with some child hood disorder, but I don't remember what it was. When he was little he was constantly becoming obsessed with things. He was obsessed with cars. They were all he thought about. He couldn't get over cars. And as he got older it would change from one thing to another. And now he still gets extremely obsessed with things. He goes fromn being obsessed wtih islam one week to being obsessed with judaism another. He's obsessed wtih hitler, then he hate him. He doesn't like having all of these obsessions but he just can't control it. He's very emotional, he gets angry and sad a lot, and other days he's really happy. I don't think he has ocd, but I'm not sure if it's just bipolar that he has. ANd I don't remember what he was diagnosed with as a child.
Thanx,

Looks like Bipolar to me because of how quickly he picks up and drops obsessions. With Asperger's you're looking at obsessions that last at least a year or two, and maybe an entire life. Bipolar disorder has a tendency to pickup and then abandon tasks quickly like you described the friend.
Edit to add that I'm speaking as someone diagnosed with both Asperger's and Bipolar I.

Thank you for responding!!
When he was young, I THINK (not sure) that the obsessions did last for at least a year or so (I didn't actually know him then), but now they only last a few weeks or so.
Thanks again for your help!!

Being obssessed with things doesn't make a person Aspergers. There's a bunch of other diagnostic criteria that would have to be met.
Have you ever been to Daniel Amen's website?
