It makes that the person is very rational and is less under the control of his emotions. Most are above average intelligence.
Due to our rationality we are not very well accepted by the more emotional, standard, people.
Our behavior is controlled by logic and ratio which causes many misunderstandings with people who aren't because they depend more on an older part of the brain to interface with the environment.
Furthermore we have a lot of eccentricities which seem weird to others but make sense to us.
That's the reality.
I see that this post is very old, but it really is the best description of Asperger's I have ever read. I don't have Asperger's, so I am very dramatic when I am upset. At least that is what my husband tells me. My daughter has Asperger's and I believe my husband could be undiagnosed. One reason I believe he has Asp is similar to the explanation you gave above. My husband seems emotionally devoid, and that infuriates me. He seems to show two emotions. Happy and mad. I mean, it drives me crazy. My daughter is mellow, and it doesn't bother me at all, but then again; I know she has Asperger's and she is my child. It's just... it's totally different. If I knew my husband had Asp, I would probably see him much differently. I would know there wasn't a lack of love, or emotional connection to me. It's so confusing because my husband is very social. I did complain about his social interactions early in our relationship though.
I love eccentric people. I love leaders. I love to be around people who aren't afraid to be themselves. But I noticed my husband taking on the persona of the person he was socializing with early in our relationship. He seems to take on their personality. He confuses me.
