Does this guy have AS?/How to approach...

Postby Guest » Fri May 20, 2005 6:03 pm

Hi, I am new to this site and forum and I would like to tell you about my friend Dale.

He is a jr in high school and is enrolled in advanced classes (AP and Pre-AP). He maintains a C average. However, he never does work at school, he tells us he needs to bring it home in order to learn any of it as well as correctly complete assignments.

The only place he wants to go out to is his girlfriends and he treats here very rudely. Sometimes, if the lighting is not to Dale's liking, he will run himself into walls and yell. Neighbors in her apartment have complained about the shaking and noises. Its like you cant get this kid to sit still sometimes. He paces around rooms, throws things and drives cars in an erratic manner. He sits in chairs strangely, too. I don't know how to describe that one.

When he was younger, he didnt have any major social problems, but when he was 12 or 13, thats when his communication troubles started and he could only talk to people about the hobbies he was involved in.

Can these actions be related to the symptoms of AS? What does it sound like to you...? And lastly, how can i approach him about seeking guidance and what do you think his reaction may be? He is a dear friend and I feel I need to help.

It is impossible to administer an accurate diagnosis over the internet.

If you're his friend and you want to help you either need to convince him or his parents there's something that needs to be done. You can't help him if he doesn't want help. The only people that could accomplish that are his parents, and even then the success rate is less than stellar.
