9yo autistic son with PTSD

Postby zzagz » Sun Apr 04, 2010 10:31 am

I am just reaching out inthe hope offinding other families in similar situatins.

My name is Jaimee, I am 30 and live in Autralia.

I have two children with multiple disabilities aed 6 and 9.

In Jauary 2009, on my 29th birthday my husband was assaulted and killed. Since then everything has been a massive mess.

Anyway, my older son is suffering qute severely with PTSD. Unfortunately due to his autism and subsequent langage difficulties, its makin supporting him realy difficult. I have now been through over 35 different counserllors/ psychologists/ therapists etc in the hope of helping him.

I would really prefer that he be medicated at the moment , but that is a risk due to his heart condition.

ANyway, I would just love to hear from others who have got their children through somethig like his and how they manged it.

Jaimee, I'm going to move this to the Asperger's Forum (which is a type of autism) because I know that we have users from Australia on that forum. Your thread will still appear in the PTSD Forum and it will be linked to here. You've been to an incredible amount of professionals about this already (35?!) and to be honest I'm disappointed that none could help you. Is it financial support you need too? There is an Australian website that might be able to help you out: http://www.autismsupport.org.au/

Also, considering that your situation sounds to be serious, you might even consider contacting the well-reputed Tony Attwood at his site: http://www.tonyattwood.com.au/ Obviously it won't be him reading your correspondence in the first case, but you might be able to get help. However, that's mostly tailored for Asperger's too (and not Autism), but I'm hoping they can help you out.

Good luck,
Kevin
