Before this my voice would be shaky and I would speak quickly. Actually, as I think vack through my life, I can remember meeting many people who were shy and who laughed while talking about various problems in their lives.

I've had to practice saying "hi" and asking how a person is before getting straight to the point of why I'm talking to them.

It was really obvious during the recent presidential debates that both the candidates always took the time to greet the person asking the question and then to thank everyone involved before attempting an answer.

That was like a set script. It was almost as if they were saying it in automation while their brain was inside using the time spent saying it to formulate a answer to the question they'd been presented, as if they were buying time to think.

I'm envious. When I do those polite protocols its not yet natural enough that I don't have to focus my brain on doing them.

Hmmm, on this note, I'm thinking that these candidates have obviously been trained on how to address people 'correctly' and efficiently. So, I'm sure they can now gauge how hard it is to have Asperger's syndrome (because we always have to learn how to greet/talk to people)!

Yeah I laugh at inappropriate times. I used to just think I have a different sense of humor than other people. I laughed at a lot of the posts in the aspergers forum, mainly cuz they were same symptoms I have, and it's amazing.

I laugh when I'm physically exhausted and sometimes when something startles me. I laughed into the night when I found out the name of AS... It sounds like an item on the Mc. Donalds menu. (joke)

The famous 'Ass-Burgers' joke, right? Can you believe that some people here have actually thought that AS doe actually stand for 'Ass-Burgers'? I think there was a user who used that as his username too, but he was just a troll/joker; and was eventually banned.

I do this a lot too. My best way of replying to someone is usually just smiling and saying "yeah".

Just smile and nod, eh? That's the best approach :)

Keep trying... ...it will eventually become easier for you. However, don't feel that you have to talk just for the sake of it. If you feel like sitting there saying nothing, then do just that.

I dont really have any problems with inappropriate smiling, but i had this problem of laughing at stuff that i wasn't supposed to. I can recall a couple of events, like laughing myself to tears when my dad was beating my mom and when my cat was choking. Im different now though.

That can't be good, Tom. Why was he beating your mother?
