Is my diagnosis good?

Yes

No. The conflicts with Asperger's really don't rule out an AS possibility.

Doubts about AS

Postby some guy » Tue May 15, 2007 2:59 am

Here's a list I just made of my characteristics that seem to conflict with Asperger's, and further support diagnosis in my signature... I just wonder if it is normal to have this many conflicts. It would just make me feel better if I could rule this out, so I stop having doubts about myself and diagnosis. Basically, I just want to be able to say "I have _____" to explain my behaviors although I would never really give out that kind of information about myself unless asked. Obviously, I do share many things in common with aspies, but I'm not listing the things I do share because it would probably take longer to list and wouldn't provide any evidence against it.

- Difficulty getting something started, even when it strongly interests you

- Intense desire to be unnoticed (don't want to be seen with a haircut, new shirt, etc.)

- Inability to focus on ANYTHING for extended periods of time, except sometimes if fear or sometimes revenge or competition

- No problems with loud noises, you even desire them sometimes

- Excessively monitoring the body language of people around you and sometimes hyperfocusing on their conversation which is none of your business

- Constant use of dry sarcasm

- Desire and ability to multitask

- Inability to sit still during lectures and speeches

- Does not like to plan for the future at all and thrives on spontaneity, dislikes routine, but also has mild hoarding behaviors

- Likes to try new things, but is afraid to only due to intense social anxiety

- Gets a thrill out of breaking rules and being defiant towards authority

- Takes criticism very offensive and can't get over it easily

- Trouble making coherent writing and following basic structures

- Inability to read complete articles (read first paragraph and skim the rest)

- At times overempathetic, but afraid to offer help to others

- Quick to anger and quick to get over it

- Afraid to IM due to fear of being laughed at behind your back, preference to communicate in person

- Equally left and right brained, IN(F/T)P personality type, performs well in all school subjects

- Average fine motor coordination as well as gross motor coordination in early years, although the gross coordination has slipped tremendously since developing a strong social anxiety and stopping sports

- Desire for perfection, but will usually only make small efforts to achieve it, which leads to horrid organization. OCD does run in the family, and I may have a few mild symptoms but not to a noticeable degree on the outside

- Often focusing on things tangent to the task at hand

- No deficiency in imaginative play (did it longer than normal) or spatial skills

- Usually quick at getting jokes and usually quick to make them, although sometimes people have trouble understanding them. Then I'm afraid of explaining them, so they think I'm weird.

- Best student in school at solving word problems as shown by competitions, often using creative methods to solve them

- Very adept at linking things together to understand how things work

- Good abstract thinker
Lost in the ocean. There's no way out.

Here's what's in common with me.

Sometimes[b] i find it had ot get something started, though.

Yes.

some guy wrote:- Quick to anger and quick to get over it
I'm not so quick at getting over it though.

some guy wrote:- Equally left and right brained, IN(F/T)P personality type, performs well in all school subjects

I am not sure about this left and right brain thing, but i am very intelligent [apparently]

APPARENTLY I am bad at getting jokes, but apart from that that quote goes for me too.

I was always best in my class at spelling. not sure about word problems.

Not really sure what you mean by linking things together, or abstract thinker. I SHOULD know though, they look like simple things for people to know hehehe.

Hey,

I voted 'Yes' because the ADHD seems to fit quite well. I show all the signs of Asperger's but also all the signs of ADHD. It certainly makes reading things very hard. I don't really see where the 'Avoidant' bit comes into it but perhaps you can enlighten me.

It's good to maintain a list of symptoms like that. I have a list on my PC too and showed it to my therapist who took a copy of it. Would you do that? I'd recommend condensing it first.
