Hi, I just joined here. I'm planning on going to the doctor some time this wek to hopefully try and get information about getting an evaluation for Asperger's. My older cousin was diagnosed with what they thought was Asperger's. I'm 19 and do not have a driver's license. I had a Segment 1 driving permit. This was over a year ago: I was getting ready to pull out of Meijer's with my mom and I thought this guy was turning, so I pulled out. However, because of my inability to judge distance and speed, the guy was closer than I thought, and he wasn't turning. Here's the bad part: after I pulled out, he passes me, on a double yellow line and my mom said he gave me the finger, but all I saw was a fist. If only the guy could've known that I most likely have Asperger's. Has anybody else had something like that happen to them? I'm still not completely over it. :( Also, I've found that my sensory issues are becoming more outstanding. My mom and dad make a certain sound with their mouth (but it's hard to describe), and it sends me over the edge. I cover my ears and almost scream. I've read that this is what people with Asperger's will sometimes do, because of the whole sensory thing. They know it bothers me, and still do it, anyways. I guess they think being autistic is funny. Has anybody on here been diagnosed with Asperger's? If so, can you tell me what the doctor may do to help me get diagnosed? Thank you.

Hey,

I don't think a doctor (General Practitioner) can diagnose Asperger's. They will have to refer you to a psychiatrist that specialises in that specific area. You could ask your doctor for a referral.

I lose concetration oftentimes too and people have in the past said to me that I look like I'm lost. I don't think I've ever heard of concentration loss as a clear sign of Asperger's but, personally, I find it very difficult to concentrate. I think it's just certain noises disrupt our brains. However, once you find a special place with the right kind of noises then your brain can work wonders.

Hey I have this same problem with driving, concentration and noise...

I do have a license but am scared of driving. When I drive its surreal, due to lack of concentration. It is easy to drive in highways where there is no traffic but in the city I am completely lost!! Now I have a daughter so I am all the more petrified of driving... However it helped me a lot to start the car before fear overtook me. Sometimes it is also difficult to phathom what the other driver is signalling with his/her demeanour at junctions. So I just let them pass!!! Before I drove out I would imagine the road and played songs that I loved and that really helped me from sleeping with my eyes open.
