Obsessions

Postby Vayne » Fri Oct 20, 2006 8:38 pm

One of the traits of people with aspergers is they have obsessions. Personally it is the thing I most relate to, I wanna know what sort of obsessions you have or had in the past. I usually have "obessions" or what I prefer to think of them as, hobbies, that last about 1 or 2 years, then usually fizzle out and disappear.

Here's some I can remeber, when I was 11 it was a anime series called DragonBall Z. Then at 14 I really got into the band Nirvana, or more into Kurt Cobain. Then more recently I was really into texas hold'em poker, I'd watch all the poker show on tv, I knew all the players.

Well somewhere along the line I stopped taking interest in poker, now I'm not really interested in anything as deep as the things I mentioned, but there are smaller things. But anyway, I want to know what sort of stuff you lot get obsessed with.

could be anything really. some are intence and long lived. some are short lived, and not so intense. some cause me slight trouble. for intance. i dont wear a watch as i would look at the time more often than needed. the only watch i do have is a "social watch" when i dress up. It doesnt work. i am however allways looking for the time. and usually can tell the time rather precise based on intuition. but its no biggie really. my obsessions come and go based on how anciuos im feeling. if im not that manic my obsessions are rather mild. the more maic the more intence obessesion. or as i dont really know, the more intence the obbsession the more intense the mania. in absense of both im still rather intense about things. i also must note im not AS

1 of my 1st obsessions was Little House on the Prairie.
Then it was Helen Keller & her life.
Then it was the Titanic.
all of these lasted years upon years upon years.

from about 8 yrs old till about 13 yrs old i generated about 10,000 dungens and dragons charectures of every, level, skill, class, race ect... mind you, i rarely if ever played the game with others.

also in this time frame i was studing a lot of tae kwon do which had become a 5 day a week activity by the age 14. also i have had a prediliction for video games, intially as a kid ultima 2..

as an adult i have had a hardcore civilization habbit, starting with civ 2 then i really got junked out when i started playing civ III's multiplayed community, and still currently am playing civilization IV used to play at least 3 games a day, each lasting between 2 and 5 hrs, now i get in at least 3 or 4 games a week hopefully more. needless to say, this has shown itself to be quite detrimental at holding on to relationships.

as well i suppose i was " obsessed " when in relationships. having 2 that streached for 5 yrs before i drove them each nuts, or at least sick of me anyhow.
