rambling on and on

Postby ogr » Thu Mar 21, 2013 11:13 pm

Hello

Does anyone else ramble on and on?

What do I mean by ramble? I mean talk about things that nobody else cares about, but you do, and you talk and talk before someone says shut up, lol.

I do it all the time, but have no idea I am doing it. If you guys do this what do you talk about?

Nah...I got a lot better about it. I still have sometimes when I'll go into too much detail or a tangent, and people have to make it super apparent that I should stop ... but I wouldn't say it's all the time, nor would I say I totally 'ramble'

The thing I kinda learned, mostly, is that I need to be quiet with those I'm not comfortable with. For example, one of my friends I can speak near totally open about. It's totally relaxed. With many at work? not quite so much.

I only ramble on with people I know, basically close family members.

How did you manage to control it, I don't recognise when I do it.

That's a good question.

I'm not sure how I learned to control it. I suppose, in general, I've had very few people close in my life and basically wouldn't say much to anyone but those close. I suppose my father told me enough times when I was rambling to help me recognize it better. *shrug*

It's sometimes harder though. When I have friends on the bus, we talk generally pretty loud and about really random stuff...it's something I try to catch sooner, rather than later, so we can be careful with those around us. I'm not very effective at that yet, though.

I usually end up going on a tangent from the original discussion in conversing with others. For better or for worse, my self esteem issues had me become self critical of the worth of whatever i am saying to the other party so i end up catching myself before i go overboard with the rambling. I've noticed that a good indicator if the other person is really interested in my rambling was to just abruptly stop talking. If they follow up then all is good, more often than not though they just switch topics to their own interests and leave me feeling ignored.
