I am wondering if anyone else here is disturbed by the sound of other people eating. For me it is to the point that I feel like my body is in a rage and I will start to cry. I am just curious to know if this could be related to AS or if it's something else.

Hey,
The sound of chewing irritates me - It always has and yes, sometimes I feel so bitter about it that I feel that I will explode at the person making the noise. At times, when eating at the dinner table with my family I suddenly stop and feel so out of place simply by hearing the chewing of the food. It seems surreal.
By the way, I was never diagnosed as having AS but I certainly show many of the symptoms of it.

I can understand your irritation. But for me, it depends of the moment. The smallest sounds irritate me and I can get extremely agitated; which makes it worse. I find that the irritation is from sensative senses along with reaction (sensative to noise and how you take that sound).
If it bothers you, it might be a good idea to take a moment to step away and collect your senses. Just take a breather and step back in when you feel you can handle it again.

I've always gotten irratated at the sound of crewing, mouth open or closed, I get a digusting visual in my head of the food being squished and looking pukish. People would wonder why I'd say to them to chew more silently.
Glad to know I'm not alone on that one.

This is a method advised by professionals that I have encountered in the Psychological field. It is used to cope with stressful situations, and during the onset of a compulsion in the OCD sufferer.

I thought I was alone in this.. especially when you mention it causing rage or bringing you to tears. The sound of people chewing their food, muffled voices through the wall, snoring, the change in people's voice when they've a cold.. all insanely irritating to me.

That annoys me too. This thread is proving highly interesting and comforting at the same time as we come to realise that we have similar annoyances.
Does anybody, like me, feel weird and even embarassed at the sound of certain words? This has been the case throughout my life. Some words have come to be accepted by me however, most nitably, 'fluke'.

Is the hating of chewing a disorder on its own?! - No no, it isn't but it's just a quirk of a disorder.
