here we go...

Ok so, two days ago, i think I had my first panic attack. I've led a normal life so far...my childhood was a bit shaky and unstable, but I'm now attending school, studying psychology (go figure). I usually stay up all night and sleep during the day, and I had just finished watching a movie. I went to go get in bed with my husband, and when i closed my eyes, all these shcking disturbing images came into my mind, and i freaked out. i felt like my chest was too tight and I had to get out of that room, out of the dark. I went to the bathroom splashed water on my face and woke my husband. He didnt really understand and I dont blame him, but for the next thirty minutes or so, I was shaky, and felt beyond reality. I was sure i was going to be committed to the nearest mental institution and that scared me more. It is now two days later, and I still feel odd, weird feeling in the pit of my stomach. I'm still a bit freaked out by this, and new to it, so i came here for some help. thank you so much for any advice you can give me.

Hey,

You should really try to go to bed at a more suitable time each night, and sticking to it. Staying awake at night and sleeping during the day is something that we aren't meant to do. The reaction of Sunlight on our skin produces Vitamin D, which has been linked to depression in some studies. That's the first thing I think you should do.

The next thing - if you're up for it - is to talk about your childhood to someone (maybe a doctor). I had a miserable childhood, but talking about it to a therapist has made me a slightly more competent and happy adult.

I understand that some things stay with you subconciously...but i know i think i have let all of that go. I know my sleep habits might have an effect on me, but it still strikes me as funny that I know I'm a happy person and try to live life to the fullest. I'm just scared something is really wrong with my brain. Sounds stupid, but i really feel that way.

Would you say that you're 'obsessed' that something is wrong with your brain? I mean, does this worry stick with you throughout the day and affect how you do your work?; and does it 'cut-into' your relaxation time? If it does, then it could be the sign that you are developing amild form of OCD. I still stick to my earlier advice that you should talk about these things to someone (a professional, I mean).
