going blind?

Postby blue^girl » Fri May 02, 2008 8:16 pm

Maybe this is just anxiety. But I am starting to feel strange processes happening to my sight. I see ok, I can read ok, etc. But lately I feel a strange disattachment with what I see. When I am outside I feel a strange feeling of confusion whenever I dont have something specific to focus on. Sometimes I go from seeing ok- to feeling confused- things become lighter and unclear, things like looking at my watch become difficult, because I have to concentrate on something specific and detailed.

I'm scared. I'm 22 years old. But I dont know whats happening and I can feel that something is.

Someone help?

Hey,

Sometimes my vision goes very strange, but it's only for a fraction of a section. I don't think it is to do with anything in particular but natural body processes at work. Still, why don't you just arrange an appointment with an optometrist / ophthalmologist?

Sorry - yes - that's what an optometrist & ophthalmologist are (i.e. eye doctors). I wouldn't be worrying too much about it but I'm interested to know how the appointment goes for you. Will you report back here if you like?

I always have extreme difficulty with the way I see everything around me. I'm always on the brink of being dizzy and it's hard to focus. I also get this way when I'm at a store that has a zillion things that I have to choose from. I noticed this about four years ago while picking out baby stuff at Wal-mart. This was before I knew I had anxiety. It's funny because now that I know, I can remember MANY MANY different things that stretch back to when I was a teenager that were symptoms of anxiety. Do you see fine right when you wake up and then later during the day you notice that it's not right? Because I have found that if I get plenty of good deep sleep, I won't notice anything strange. I notice that it gets worse around that time of the month too. It might be the hormones changing.

I thought I heard somewhere that because we are so sensitive to everything, that is why it seems so distorted at times. I also think that you are reacting to it which makes you think it is getting worse because you are paying attention to it. I'm also very curious to find out what the optometrist says to you. Let us know sweety :)

Ok I went and things are more clear for me. She told me I seemed a bit "long sighted" so that I see from far away, but that I have a mild form of "crooked horniner" (please excuse my translation if this is not right), like my eyes crosses and get tired after a while. that could explain why I sometimes struggle with details.

I also know what you mean e. when going in a store where there is lots of options, my eyes start to hurt straight away. but i dont think all of this has to do with sight, but like you said, anxiety.

I still dont know why things become so bright sometimes, but think that could be anxiety too. I forgot to ask. :?

Also sleep is very important, if I dont get my sleep I feel broken. or im so sleepy that I become very chilled and relaxed, but I have 0 energy.

Having good sleep is like a drug to me. If I don't get it my nerves are on end. I can deal with it, I use to not be able to. I would panic a lot. Now I can handle the feelings better and I don't panic as much or at all. It's just kind of an annoyance when my sleep is interrupted because of a bad dream, or my dog wants to go outside, or my boyfriend is restless.

Thanks for posting the results of your eye exam, it's good to know. Like I said before, our senses are heightened and that is why things are more extreme to us. Which makes it harder for us to relax. That is probably why everything seems so bright sometimes. Which is another reason why (if you have this prob) you may like to stay inside a lot. I must have the same thing as you because I've always had issues with brightness as well.

Hey,

Is this what the ophthalmologist was talking about:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horner%27s_syndrome

I have an eye-condition called 'Astigmatism', which is also associated with the eyes being tired (or 'lazy'). I also don't like the thought that my body is not 100% efficient anymore. I'm 25 now, however, and it will never be 100% again. From now on, my body is on the slow path to, well, 'oldness'.
