A bizzare story that always gave me anxeity please help!

Postby wakawakawaka » Fri Apr 21, 2017 11:46 pm

There has always been a "True" story that had always gave me anxiety and I don't know why please I hope for some answers here!

Its about Johanna Michaelsen, she is a evangelical author that claimed she had worked with a "psychic" surgeon in the 1970s before becoming a fundamentalist Christian. The stories she told were outrageous, yes I know psychic surgeons have been constantly debunked over the years, but this, this one was not only never really debunked but also the surgeon, "Pachita" was documented by others whom told outragous things about her including very unbelievable stories of healing and turned out to be a real person! The story just makes me worry! It bothers me so much, because if any part of her story is true then the form of fundamentalist Christianity would be true! Not only that I feel like I cant judge any metaphysical system fairly when there is a story like this floating around. Please anyone have any idea whats wrong with me?

Hello, this is a bit of an old post, but if you see this, let us know how you're doing... sounds as if it's a bit of an existential thing going on with you. As a Christian I've always subscribed to the opinion that the last thing most people want to to think there's really something out there that is not all sunshine and rainbows- what CS Lewis would derisively call a 'tame' God. The kind you can believe in when everything's hunky-dory, but when you want to do something 'a little shabby' won't bother your conscience. When the real Christian God is a very scary being who has definite ideas of conduct.

Would that be something along the lines of what you mean when you say it makes you worry?

thank you for responding I guess I am feeling a lot better now. I gave tis a lot more thought and talked to more people and I feel that there are a lot of holes in Michaelsen's story for one. What bothers me is the existence of such a weird messedup story might actually be true and its bizzare implications
