I notice this a lot with myself, mostly when im out in public, even just walking, but mostly on the bus. My teeth are clenched and my whole body feels tense and tightened a lot. I also try not to make eye contact with anyone either, but the first thing i think i noticed was the severity of my teeth clenching and tightening my chin up with it. As a result, the one side of my jaw constantly pops and clicks when i open my mouth. It also makes the side of my head hurt, as well as my arm and sometimes all the way down my back. I think its probably TMJ for me, so it could be likely that the clenching is from anxiety.

I get this

Postby anna » Sun Nov 26, 2006 8:49 pm

I've just started posting in PTSD section and mentioned my jaw. It started after I was attacked, so I think for me it is anxiety associated. I became very phobic of it which has not helped and causes me to then roll into a panic attack. I can't eat very well and over the last 25years it has been good and bad. I am just starting therapy about the attack and of course my jaw is at it's worst. I woke up this morning and my neck is also stiff. Finding these posts is amazing. I've never wanted to look for other sufferers due to the phobic side, but for some reason, I now have the courage to start dealing with this. For me all symptoms are heightened during my cycle.... is that the same for other female sufferer's? My dentist said it is not TMJ and non physical. I totally understand what you are all going through. I hate it and it has really dragged me down over the years. Valium has helped at various points, but I sleep with my jaw clenched so tight. My attacker woke me from my sleep so I suppose that's why for me.
I do Transandental Meditation and this is very very good, specific for stress.
