This is true. But by telling others to be less selfish, and them acting accordingly, in turn produces a world that benefits everyone.

In other words, if everyone acted less selfishly, then everyone would benefit.

While acting selfishly may benefit you in the short term, it leads to the breakdown of those foundations which really benefited or could benefit you more.

So it is ultimately in everyone's interest to act not selfishly.

I agree with you that people do suck. What I was attacking where the motivations or implications of that statement; it serves to absolve the person of responsibility to improve, either themselves or their world.

No kind of world, or way of life, benefits everyone.

Maybe you should ask people what their motivations are and what they meant to imply first. I was trying to start a conversation over the fact that we all ask facepalm-worthy questions. Some people enjoy discussing funny things.
