AsPD and Autism

Postby Iniquity » Sun Sep 25, 2011 3:48 pm

I recently took an Autism test out of curiosity and well, to be honest, out of complete and utter boredom as well. One of the psychologists I was seeing in the past, who also specializes in Neuroscience, told me, "You have some obvious sociopathic traits" and (on a separate occasion) she asked me, "Have you ever been tested for Autism?". I told her that I've never been tested for Autism, but I have been tested for AsPD in the past and scored quite high (close to 90%).
So, it got me to wondering... how common is it for someone who exhibits sociopathic traits to also exhibit Autistic traits and is it possible there is a connection between the two?

Here's a link to the Autism test. My own results are displayed below the test link:

http://glennrowe.net/BaronCohen/AutismS ... tient.aspx

Autism Spectrum quotient

Your score: 34

0 - 10 = low
11 - 22 = average (most women score about 15 and most men score about 17)
23 - 31 = above average
32 - 50 is very high (most people with Asperger Syndrome or high-functioning autism score about 35)
50 is maximum

Now, I realize that self-testing doesn't always give accurate results due to: A) one's ability to fully understand the questions or statements presented, B) the participants level of self-awareness and, C) their ability to give truly unbiased and accurate responses. So, I'm taking these results with a grain of salt so to speak because I'm not entirely sure that all of my responses would be exactly the same if the test had been taken in a professional environment. With that said though, I did answer all statements as accurately as I believe I could which makes me wonder just how Autistic I truly am.

I'm interested to see how others here who have been diagnosed with AsPD or at least, suspect they have it, score on this test also. In fact, I'm interested to see everyone's scores, but please remember to mention if you have AsPD or not.

Dunno I got 13. Antisocials should be better at social situations than many because they feel less anxiety. I do sometimes have what is "dereistic thinking" though

I don't experience anxiety, but I do have some problems picking up on social cues at times or at least, I've been told I do anyway. I think the main reason for that is because I never think about what other people are thinking when I'm interacting with them and from what I've gathered, that's all part of understanding social cues.

I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean. This is a serious thread, so I would appreciate serious responses.

Doc Serious is actually a great member here who posts cool stuff.
The Fu post isnt very nice to say-especially without context.
Lutsche, I hope you feel better soon.
I'd offer a hug, but you might try and kick me in the shin.

I scored very low as you can see. I can't see how anyone could have both, but I can see how autism could be mistaken for AsPD as they don't often show their emotions.

My 9 year old daughter is diagnosed with Aspergers, she often appears cold as she doesn't react when she sees others get hurt, she remains in whatever activity she happens to be doing at the time. She does most definitely care though when you talk to her about it, she can also definitely feel empathy.

I am glad your daughter does so well Tempest. She sounds sweet. I have a nine year old boy myself. He has a learning disability so I home school. Tough job, being a parent, but certainly worth it!
