It's Halloween

Postby Reaper » Wed Oct 30, 2019 3:10 pm

Time to celebrate that special time of year where all our murder victims get to walk the earth again.

Let's drink to the dead and sing them a merry song! They died so well...

I'm not attending.

Yet another celebration under the guise of selling junk and looking to replace local cultural traditions.

Not sure what country you're in, nor what local cultural traditions you think Halloween is trying to supplant, but here in the US, Halloween IS a tradition.

I've got the house decked out with skeletons of all types... dogs, birds, human. Got rats scampering around the grounds and huge spiders hanging from the rafters.

Costumes are ready and we're going to have scary fun tomorrow.

Another tradition that I am not willing to adopt from Americans, is "pushing open doors", or stating the obvious...

Though, having said that, I simultaneously realize that ZeroZ never does, state the obvious.

edit: in the process, a few other posters came to mind...

Well it didn't used to be a thing in scandinavia.
It was a little shelf of seasonal decoration around the corner grocery store.

But now even my kid's school calls the feast Halloween. I think they should consider their role as culture educators. Like they do with other things. Reminding of this celebration that took place hundreds of years ago.

It might be stating the obvious, but it's true.

Definitely.

I wasn't being passive aggressive, if anything I was sort of reaching out.

Living in the U.S., there are a few things I am not willing to adopt:

- Obnoxiousness/proclivity to state the obvious
- Halloween (gross! And frankly, yes, a bit materialistic)
- Political correctness

There are loads of things I like about the U.S., but I'll keep them for a different conversation.

I'm glad you're back, Seili, get used to it, lol!
