Why do you think that Hannibal chooses classical music over death metal, if neither arouses more than the other?

For me because death metal would typically inspire aggression through emotion, while the classical music is at direct odds with a violent act. Like the music selection doesn’t influence his actions. He is detached from the emotional content completely

Like being in a good mood while you rip out someone’s intestines or something like that, ‘oh hey, I’m just trying to get this head off over here but I don’t want to be rude can I get you something to drink?’

If the music selection was played over the scene as a movie scoring, I'd agree. In this case, though, the character chooses that music and I wonder what, from the character's perspective, you think compels him to do so.

Of course, he's fictional. I'm just curious about what you think

I just assume it’s the kind of music he likes/appreciates and usually listens too and it’s meant to have no connection to the attack. Or he didn’t specifically choose that for any particular reason other than he likes it, if course from a directors perspective he’s trying to show the complete lack of emotion and how he is capable of so much violence without an element of anger involved

Yeah. I think the killing is an aesthetic experience for him and he heightens the experience with more of it, making it more beautiful, and that is what is perverse and perhaps what people find unnerving.

Maybe, I just always looked at that scene as a cold calculated way to escape. Never considered the beautiful element. The music may have even been a means to keep the guards defenses low, or off guard. Lots of ways to look at that scene I suppose

Yeah, that's true and there's always a risk of over-reading

Personal taste, plus he would be intelligent enough to appreciate music for it's composition. Classical music is generally more complex than most.
I'm not arguing; I'm explaining why I'm right.

True. There have been studies done on complexity of music and personality types but I'm too lazy to discuss anything that isn't just an opinion right now

Did you comment on your music preferences, jomp? I cant recall seeing anything

Oh. You did. It just wasn't specific. Never mind. I forgot because it was easy to acknowledge

He clearly enjoys classical music. You see him at the opera in one scene (in Hannibal Rising I think). He views his kills as a work of art and classical music compliments it in a way. I'm not sure that's the right word, but it's close enough. He enjoys killing the same way he enjoys classical music.

Each murder is similar to composing a beautiful piece of music. In his mind they're the same, or similar. He's creating a masterpiece.
