It's a few hours later. Sorry for going overboard. For what it's worth, long posts about yourself in someone else's thread are repugnant to read again once a wave passes. Didn't realise how tone deaf it was.

"It's in your better interests that people are aware of your SPD and tendency to create fantasies instead of living them, else become unwitting contributors to your dysfunction"

has mr penguin been diagnosed spd, or are you just assuming?

it is good advice btw, even if it was dropped from ten stories up =)

I can't speak for him. But my understanding comes from his own identification as such until relatively recently; more so though, there's a couple of other people who I respect and who know more about the condition than I do that relate to him as being certifiably so. It might not be how he identifies now, but I think I only really agree with that when going abstract with labels altogether. There's never really enough information on a forum like this anyway.

I'd still have said that stuff, just worded it differently.

To answer your question: I think he might have been dx'd, but can't remember for sure. He may not have.

I might have traits. The only thing I have to my name is 2 conduct disorder diagnoses. One was a precocious CD dx when I was younger than 10 and another in my teens when they gave CD with specifier unemotional/callous.

Sadism only requires cognitive empathy, not affective (emotional) empathy.

I disagree using the logic that sadism or sadistic pleasure implies an affective response to the suffering of others which is definitively empathy. I just think it’s warped.

Some psychologists are sneaky and define affective empathy as “reasonable” relation to or feeling for the suffering which is a normative answer that says it’s only an empathetic response if it’s in line with normative standards of what is acceptable. I don’t like that definition. They’re feeling something in response to it. They’re not indifferent. They experience something and it’s just not particularly morally commendable. That’s not the same as feeling nothing which would to me be a lack of affect

I meant to have typed empathic by which I meant the sadist feels something from what you feel not necessarily that they feel what you actually feel.

For instance when the masochist expresses pain, they may feel enjoyment. If the pain was not expressed, the enjoyment would not be expressed.

Or, in other terms, the sadist needs to gage the extent of their pain in order to transform it into their own enjoyment.

I could probably expand on my thinking better here at a later stage, it was a passing thought.

I only care if it effects me or my children.

I will pretend to care for many reasons being to keep up appearances, or to show off how wonderful I am by solving problems.

The only reason I am choosing to respond is due to the irony of your comment.

Definitely caring a tad too much about some stuff today....

I have some cute way of showing I care where I need to play narcissist Mach mastermind and orchestrate things working out for everyone without them knowing I’ve meddled. I don’t express affection overtly really when it’s sincere but if I like someone I’ll give them everything I can if it fixes the issue.

It’s always been my primary way of displaying affection: I’ll take care of it.
