ASPD offspring

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, seeing as how it’s most likely a case of genetics and also environment/parenting that causes ASPD and other PDs. What is your stance on having kids, knowing that there is a higher chance of producing another sociopath (nothing is for certain).

I stopped at one child I had when I was Very young. I didn’t stop because of mental illness or anything like that as I never would have entertained the idea, but I did realize I didn’t fit the traditional family man so I chose not to have anymore. I think my position now is I wouldn’t intentionally reproduce because of a chance of mental illness being passed along. What are your thoughts?

I have a son and I don't think about mental disorders or anything most of the time and certainly not enough to base that on my life choices

If i ever have a kid, it will be with an empath.

Since i don't really want to have a kid anyway, as it would be too much work and a distraction from my own life, i'm not too worried. If i did have one, and he ended up like me, well that's no problem because i think i'm pretty damn fine.

It's not like he'd be running around killing people.. my wife would breast feed him as my mother did me, and teach him manners, and keep him in school.

Well I can’t speak as someone diagnosed with a PD, in fact the diagnosis (soon to become defunct) i was given way back when specifically excludes PDs. However I do have an unpleasant metabolic disorder with an autosomal dominant inheritance pattern.

I made a descision not to have children when I was 16. I have a fair amount of contact with young people and to be honest I’ve never really felt the need. It also seemed to me that ‘mentor’ generally has the advantage over ‘father’ on several levels.

only if the father is absent and/or sh*tty. in that case the mentor becomes the father figure.

My mother never wanted me to be a parent because of the way I am. I remember her making an appointment for me to see the doctor when I was 17 to get fixed up so I couldn't have kids (I can't think of the actual medical term). The doctor said I was too young for that kind of procedure and to leave it a few years before making that decision. Well, obviously I never got it done since my daughter came along later on.

I was never worried about producing another sociopath because I didn't even know I was one at the time and it wouldn't have occurred to me to worry about something like that anyway. I'm the type that doesn't worry about the bridge I have to cross until I get to it.

Although my daughter had all the signs and symptoms of becoming a sociopath when she was younger, she didn't become one and I'm thankful for that because I can only imagine how much more of a handful she would have been had that been the case. She was already a nightmare to raise as it was.

you're more worried she would have been a bigger handful rather than the stress it would have caused in her life?
