Your thoughts on Martin Shkreli. Sociopath?

Postby toosober » Fri Feb 05, 2016 5:08 am

Martin Shkreli was an pharmaceutical executive who increased the price on a medication by up to 3,000 %. He was arrested by FBI and currently awaiting trial. He posted 5 million to stay out of the clink. Today there was a video of him being questioned by congress. If you have not watched it the video can be found on fox news or youtube. He immediately struck me as sociopathic. Watch his facial expression, listen to tone of voice, and his over all demeanor.

I've been watching his live streams when I get the chance (he has his own YouTube channel) and silly things like while in chatroom party calls saying, for instance, "I invent drugs" and arguing adamantly that he creates these drugs himself and is "discovering them as a scientist" or medical students asking him medical questions about the drugs he says he an expert on and him fending them off with stuff like "That's like asking Mick Jager how to play a B chord. I'm not going to answer that!!" make me think he's a narcissist. He wants people to think he's the $#%^ when it comes to this crap when he hasn't got a clue.

Certainly cluster B. I think NPD. Maybe comorbid AsPD.

Whether he's a psychopath? Ehhh. Maybe. Not so sure, tbh. Watching the TV stuff and seeing what he's done I would have said yes but after watching him at home on his computer I think differently now. His motivation is mostly recognition.

If you ever got to see the Bill Gates interrogation tapes, you'll notice the feds put alot of pressure on him.

There is no law broken, until someone decides they are unworthy, or have done wrong.

For instance, if he marked up the price to pay for additional research into mission critical developments, who is going to argue especially if he has any role in the creation of the medicine.

However, if he cornered the market, and bullied out the competition in a way which prohibited progress or so on, then he's considered a villain.

The federal government works in strange ways.

In the Bill Gates tapes one of the key issues is what Bill Gates meant by a "Killer Application".

Killer being the word they stressed again and again,

I never watched the tapes in full, however, the man did work with software and hardware which opened the market to various vendors, unlike apple which closed the market.

The issue at the time, was whether or not, microsoft internet explorer bundled with the windows os, was kicking the competition unfairly into oblivion.

Computer ethics were probably very different back then, right?

I am indifferent to these things without fully understanding the feds issue.

Whether they are a sociopath or not? I dunno.

Well, who are they, other than the defenders of the orthodoxy?

The medical establishment in the USA is very different than in other places.

Is life saving medicine something the government is entitled to cheaply to stifle innovative medicines in the future?

Why is he a sociopath?

My hunch is that he is an entrepreneur and the USA is creating life saving medicines all the time now.

Without understanding the industry in full, the issue is the government, using human life as a bullsht way of saying, we want your money, and your time.

Let's go to war people, I am sure there are a few hundred million dollars of idling tanks waiting for a massacre somewhere.

Please do not invade Canada.

If someone roughed you up, how are you going to look?

I will bet you any money the tapes give a look or style of deep dark set and tired eyes.

When you go there, I doubt you have a choice as to where you sit.

Damn autoplay on social media.
Sheep-like media should cut off his media attention already. At the very least.
Naturally, to him, the actual cause ceased being interesting like ages ago. He is all up for building up the bad boy pharma title, more worthy than any financial profit gratification. Public pressure and emotional appeal won't soften him. Hand him some $#%^ and $ching ching$ is what you'll hear.

Seek out to utilize the loopholes just like he does, and hold these hearings in a small, padded booth.
So maybe you'll capture this man's presence, for a second. Or at least, shorten the time and money requiring process.

I enjoy a good witch hunt every now and then, especially when I've just gotten my pitch fork sharpened and thrown a bag of popcorn into the industrial radiation cooker.

This is what it is. What you say is partitally true. An NPD through and through, with an extremely high sense of entitlement.

Wiki says, they can't get him on raising the price of the drug, or they got him on something else. The thing is, HIV patients are paid for by the government.

What many people do not understand is many of the rich people in existence tap into a "corporate social welfare system" and bleed people dry.

On December 17, 2015, Shkrelli was arrested by federal agents on securities fraud related to a hedge fund firm he founded. "The federal case against him has nothing to do with pharmaceutical costs, however. Prosecutors in Brooklyn charged him with illegally taking stock from Retrophin Inc., a biotechnology firm he started in 2011, and using it to pay off debts from unrelated business dealings. He was later ousted from the company, where he’d been chief executive officer, and sued by its board. In the case that closely tracks that suit, federal prosecutors accused Shkreli of engaging in a complicated shell game after his defunct hedge fund, MSMB Capital Management, lost millions. He is alleged to have made secret payoffs and set up sham consulting arrangements."[26] He resigned as CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals the next day.[27]

This statement clearly makes him an asshole and I hope he burns in hell.

"If there was a company that was selling an Aston Martin at the price of a bicycle, and we buy that company and we ask to charge Toyota prices, I don't think that that should be a crime."[22][23]

Whoops, I read that wrong, seems as if he could be doing the right thing.

My father went on expensive experimental drugs, which cured him of leukemia, so, I can't really say these drugs aren't worth things.

Mass producing synthetic drugs however, are probably reasonably cheap compared with scaling up production based on natural resources, but I am unfamiliar with the drug.
