There also has been some pretty decent orchestra renditions of both Metallica and Tool songs.

I spend most of my time exploring others' headspaces so I will have short phases of certain styles.

When I was a kid I was into dance/club music. Being 9 years old and listening to Clubland or Ministry of Sound at 3am, chilling in my room. Still like it but back then it was probably my primary genre. I had a phase in my teens of classic rock. I quite like instrumentals and return a lot to progressive rock like Pink Floyd, Trip Hop like Massive attack or Portishead. A lot of time. goes into exploring the indie scene, especially British artists. the xx became a band I am fond of and I ended up listening to a lot of fringe albums from obscure artists. I think I especially like edgy lyrics here. I also had a phase where I listened to blues a lot. My grandmother was a blues artist and so I think I picked that up from her when I lived with her for a while.

I do listen to quite a lot of classical music and opera. This is probably my cornerstone. When I'm not having a phase of exploring a new style or artist or somebody-else's taste, I'll come back to this.

It probably says something about my personality. I'm open to hearing nearly any type of music and often am not emotionally engaged in it. I'm perspective-taking and imagining a listener I'm curious about or the artist or the subject of the music and am just thinking about it from what is probably a distance-- Just kinda pondering the sentiment. Dance music I listen to probably because stimulation and that may go for other kinds of music too where I think I'm either listening for an eargasm through a melody or solo or whatever else. Then I am fully at home intellectualising musicality when I'm with myself and not thinking about a different perspective.

How foreign. Music seems to be a separate entity in itself. Interesting that your grandma played music. Family thing.

I wonder what type of pay off do you get when you perspective take or satisfy your curiosity in that area.
Feeling; accomplishment; or..

So then I'm assuming you're not intellectualizing it there; it's creating a feeling.

If you play piano, do you only intellectualize it?

I get confused when I try to make sense of intuitiveness and intellectualizing going together.

I get to experience the perspective of another which I generally feel to be deeper and more authentic than I am capable of. There's an aesthetic aspect to it. I find it pretty to think about and imagine.

I'm sure you're right. I'm not a zombie. Club music is good because it adds something extra to the background of what I'm doing.

Mostly. When I say I intellectualise it, that's not to say that I don't still find it beautiful. I think I was trying to make a distinction between how I play with music and how others might but it might have been a little heavy-handed a little early in the morning.
