"Marion was offered but refused medication. But Bellevue Dr. Robert LaFargue wrote out an order authorizing him to be injected with Haldol, an antipsychotic, and Ativan, a tranquilizer, and stating that, from then on, Marion was to take another drug, Depakote, orally, on threat of injection.

In his testimony, Marion described being strapped down to a gurney, a nurse hovering over him with a needle, then injecting him, “like in ‘The Cuckoo’s Nest,’ ” referring to Ken Kesey’s novel about a psychiatric hospital from hell. Comparing himself to “Louima,” as in police brutality victim Abner Louima, Marion said, “They used a toilet plunger for him and a needle for me.” "

The jury ultimately voted to award Marion $750,000 in damages for being held against his will for six days, $250,000 for being illegally injected with drugs and $1 for having to orally take medication.

Laws like that are redundant. 1 million dollars for being held down illegaly. I mean they gave him a mocking dollar for taking something orally. Gave him 250,000 for actually getting something he may well needed.
So many pictures online. I'll just use them all.

Yes, and its not fun, because then they'll force it on you because you are mentally ill. Used to happen when I was a kid all the time when Melaril was making me feel like crap. Turns out, I was right, it wasn't helping me, it was making me sick....

How do you know he needed it? How can you prove he needed it? These people are not some professionals who base there acts off of facts they base this stuff off of there mere opinions and judgements. You have no business forcing anything on anyone to start with, but if you are going to do such you had better be able to prove that there was a need there

one of the biggest problems we encounter is the myth that ppl labeled mentally ill cant make decisions for themselves. I find this myth insidious, its a very powerful myth and the number one selling point for forced drugging etc. diagnosed ppl are portrayed as smelly/violent/irrational/ ppl that r not in reality. Even in extreme states, u can ask questions, sometimes talking helps, this is discouraged too just more drugs. But ppl know that no means no, when they don't want to take something, maybe they r making that deciosion based on they don't want to harm their body, not because they have anosognia or somet other crap! These myths need to be dealt with they are discussting.

They frequently look over the good decisions to focus on the bad ones

I agree. I'm wondering however what you think of people who are saying that they want to complete suicide but say they want to be evaluated by a crisis team?
