Hospital care needs improvement, especially at one

As having been a patient at a certain Hospital and a patient at two other hospitals, I’ve had my share of experiences to judge different hospitals. This particular hospital I feel has a lot of room for improvement. Yes there are caring and kind staff who have your best interest in mind, and want you to be mentally healthy, but the majority I found were young and still inexperienced in life and more interested in their coworkers and gossiping, then the care of the patients. The rooms also had A/C blasting in right over the beds and this was late september which made it really cold. But the #1 complaint is there is not enough to do. Little therapy and groups and lots of sitting, pacing and sleeping going on.
Creative self-expression in the form of art therapy, music therapy, movement therapy, I believe would be most beneficial to patients. They could “get it all out” let their frustrations and “demons” out in constructive outlets. Television should be uplifting, inspiring, or at least educational. Books, magazines, newspapers, shouldn’t be tabloid stuff, but inspiring, hopeful, uplifting material. And the C.D’s they give you for listening on the headphones, should not include ganster rap with foul lyrics and negative messages. I see mental institutions need to step up to the plate and realize the most important thing their patients need, even before the medicine is love.

You have come up with some quite good constructive ideas in this post. I think you should write a letter to the hospital saying what you have said here so that they have the feedback they need in order to be able to improve their service to patients. It will be even more constructive of you to sent them a letter that details your experiences at the hospital and how you think they can improve things because by telling them, they will gain the knowledge to improve. If enough people give them these suggestions, they will have strong motivation to improve their practises.
In a way, I am not defined by my dissociation. In a way, I am.

-Yes- this a very good post with very good ideas for the hospital, make this letter anonymous and cc; at the end with a small list of newspapers attached. Your letter might get everybody off their asses and implement some of your great ideas from a clients point of view...

These are good ideas. It might be a good experience for you to follow through with. Might benefit you more then the hospital. Would benefit me to see someone empowered to follow through with it. I take such a victim negative stance on things. Its nice to hear someone on an active role of things. Great...

i think this is worldwide the standard of care has gone down the toilet. When i first had to go into one you used to get a bit of one to one with the nurses activates all day art creative writing I think there was 60 beds available so you did not have to be a complete danger to yourself to get in there was another psych not to far from me with even more beds a 100 or so since then the second psych has closed now there is only 40 beds in the one I went to no activities half the staff they had the aftercare kind of day centre was closed and absolutely no counselling of any kind. And even with that the population in the area catchment has gone up by 50 present people are dying over this
