I have read many posts on this forum that, to me, have come across as delusional, paranoid, and a knee jerk reaction that all psychiatry is a crock at best, a government plot at worst.
In my opinion, this in unhealthy and isn't going to help the person get better, automatically distrusting those who may very well be only trying to help.
On the other hand, I firmly believe that a certain amount of healthy skepticism is a good thing, even vital, in dealing with the mental health industry.
Treatment can vary in quality from state to state, even from provider to provider. I have known of facilities where they simply threw everyone in there, like a drunk tank, made no effort to counsel or treat, then simply let them out into the streets the next day, to eventually start the cycle over again.
I myself live in a state where the treatment is rated very low by a noted national mental health advocacy group. I have received less than adequate care.
I admit this may have colored my opinion of mental health care in general, but still, I feel there is nothing wrong with, while keeping it in check from running into unbridled paranoia, to question the effectiveness of mental health care in general, and there is definitely nothing wrong with questioning the specific health care one is personally receiving.
Unfortunately, I have seen in these forums those who have a knee jerk reaction to label as unstable and delusional anyone who even dares even think of even mildly questioning the legitimacy of the mental health industry.
They are cheerleaders with blinders on, believing the mental health industry can do no wrong.
If that works for their personal treatment, that is great. I simply wish they wouldn't attempt to paint as delusional anyone who doesn't feel the same way.
