What's new? They haven't found conclusive cause of a single mental illness to date. Coffee's just as good a bet as any theory for mental illness going around.

Did you hear that shopaholicism is now a mental disorder, they've even developed the medication to treat it. Those pyschiatrists can make money out of nothing.

I apologise Guest. I did not realise that you were Australian or that insulting someone on racial grounds was part of your culture. I shall endeavour to be more tolerant of your abuse in future.

For those who want to see some research for the health benefits of caffeine I suggest that you do a search on "caffeic acid" +polyphenols or take a look at www.cosic.org/ and www.ico.org/event_pdfs/scaccini.pdf .

My argument that caffeine is relatively safe is based on logic and the balance of probabilty. To repeat myself yet again; if there were any serious problems with normal caffeine consumption, given the near universal use of this drug, there would be clear evidence for these problems.

Sometimes you have to go with the balance of probabilty which, in this case, suggest that caffeine is safe.

Australia was colonised about 40,000 years ago but most of the first European settlers were criminals transported from Britain.

My grandfather emigrated to Australia after W.W.2 and my father grew up there. If my grandfather had not decided to return to England in the early 60's I would be an Australian myself.

Modern Australia is a multi-cultural society with a diverse ethnic mix.

Scientific trash says 40,000 years ago. The locals have a different story.

I heard an interesting report on the radio (BBC radio 5) about the anti-oxidents in coffee yesterday.
The report stated that coffee was the largest source of anti-oxidants in American and British diets.
I don't think they suggested that coffee was the best or the richest source of anti-oxidants in the diet, so I suspect that because so few people eat enough fruit or vegetables coffee is by default the richest source.

What do anti oxidents have to do with mental illness?

If you have to ask that question, then you shouldn't be in this thread.
