Depends on one's definition of God. My god isn't your god.

i didnt read all of the posts here; but. im diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, and psychiatry seems to have helped me quite a bit. the medication i was prescribed seems to almost completely removed my psychotic symptoms. i have been almost psychotic-symptom free for almost a year now. before that i had delusions (on and off) for years. so indeed the medication i was prescribed seems to have helped me.

Wow. OP made their account just to post this here.
I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree.
"God" has never been the answer to a single one of my problems.
However medication and therapy has made a world of difference in my life.
but good luck with all that.

I'm BPD, so please bear with the contradictions I'm about to propose:

God is almighty, yet he helps those who seek to better and help themselves - by going to therapy and taking the advice of TRUSTED doctors and medications. Some of us cannot live without them.

I'm Catholic, and there are many aspects of my religion I don't believe in - the Vatican is the richest body in the world, basically, yet they're begging money in every sermon from all of us that are struggling and unemployed? Why don't they dole out some of that cash to the needy and the poor instead of preying on the elderly and the guilty church-goers? Oh yeah, they're paying off the prients' bad behavior with little boys.

I pray to God and Mary the Mother, but without my medications, and the strength that praying to God GIVES me to attend my therapy and my pdoc appointments - I wouldn't survive. I can't just lie in bed, and say, God I need a job, one that pays $120k a year with benefits, but I'd like to work from bed, and POOF! It happens or something. That's ludicrous. I can pray for guidance and strength, but I can't pray for God to pay for my monthly prescriptions that enable me to FUNCTION LIKE A NORMAL ADULT.

A quote I heard once, "If your soul is thirsty, God will quench it, but if your throat is parched, for Pete's sake, grab a glass of water."

The OP is a quack. Psychiatry has been around before terrorism became a world-wide issue, and that's just pssssshhhh laughable. Snort.

I have been looking at a variety of things and I find it interesting that God is so strong and powerful that he can give someone the ability to part the seas, provide a family with guidance to build a massive floating zoo, create the heavens and earth and all these other cool things yet he can't save his only son, he couldn't stop the genocide of millions or provide cures for things like the common cold.

If God is so powerful why doesn't he put an end to war especially since a lot of wars have been started in his name, the best example of this is the Great Crusades.

arbie wun i am glad you posted that and if you don't mind i think it is necessary for you to see the distinction of what you state and how you cross the wires and be protected by the short.

you first say that god 'is' something and 'can' do something at first, and then you state that god 'isn't' something and 'can't' do something, where 'something' is all nested inside itself. to me it seems pretty flawed in regards to reasoning.

i think when you rely on reasoning you ought to ensure the wrinkles are ironed out of it.

but i think this is the wrong question to be asking. to me it sounds like you're still 'picking a side' and all i'm saying is to ask solid questions. it's like deciding to go to a dealership to buy a car.

i think the questions you should steer toward aren't 'if this, why this' because this bounces back and forth on the teeter-totter. but answers are best had with definitiveness. perhaps you should try 'since god is so powerful, why doesn't he stop genocides'.

it's easy to quickly become confused when you say 'since god can part the seas, then if he's so powerful why couldn't he save his begotten son?' do you see what i mean? this is essentially what you said in your post and will lead to more confusion. maybe try 'since god can part the seas, and since he's so powerful, why didn't he save his begotten son?'

all i'm sayin is if you ask the wrong questions to a car salesmen, the seller will try and scam as much money as he can out of you. but he does it by getting you to agree to something you don't really understand.

i am a firm believer that the prophecies in revelations have already been started to be carried out and i don't expect anyone to agree with me.

i think if you are going to speak of the crusades then you ought to recognize all of the wars fought in the name's of countries' gods. but you only speak of yawheh.

you talk about preventing genocides, and i'm not accusing you of genocides but how many times have you been stopped from hurting someone else? no one is blemish-free on their own accord. you can point out other devestations but what about your own committed by your own hands? should they have been stopped by someone other than you?

i find it interesting the short-sighted reasoning thriving in this thread and this is widely-accepted. i also see a lot of 'why me?' and nothing distinctly 'why not me?'

big red flag. when everything's said to be of your own benefit but not of your own blood/sweet/tears.

I do believe you are the one who is confused ocular_razor, I was merely expressing an opinion and you still failed to see the point behind the post. If someone or something is as powerful as God and can create entire planets then how come he can't fix the problems within it?

If you have a motor vehicle that doesn't run properly you fix it, if you have a flat tyre on a bicycle, you fix it. In short, if something is broken you fix it, then why doesn't God fix what is broken here?
