The facts of hosting a forum

Postby fomori4hire » Fri Jun 24, 2005 10:40 pm

It's not cheap, it's often thankless, and it's bound to leave some part of the general populace dissatisfied. It's not Sean's problem if Anti-Psych isn't properly represented here. If the movement wants a highly visible forum, they should create it. Freedom of speach does not mean you can constantly borrow the megaphone I paid for.

In this case, Sean paid for it. His arguments about the financial difficulty is valid, as anyone who has had to pay for real bandwidth or a reputable hosting facility could tell you.

Thank you.

Fomori,

I like the disclaimer - it keeps you clear of any perceived entanglements with us or our products. I would like to tell you to feel free to express yourself and your views as strongly as you have in the past.

In moderating here, you are following our basic rules but hopefully those don't fall too far from anyone's tree. As I've tried to make clear basically I have only the following rules that I try to follow here:

1) No hateful language - no racism, bigotry, or otherwise hurtful statements allowed. I don't like it and I don't want our users to have to put up with it.
2) No inappropriate links - this means no gambling sites or diet sites (because we have users with gambling problems and eating disorders). It also means no porn because we have underaged users.
3) No spamming - this means no posting the same message in several forums to try and drive traffic to your website. We usually let users post their links and they can include their links in their signature... but I don't want someone using our website to try and pimp their own unrelated website (we've had people pushing everything from their sci-fi website to their garage band's upcoming gigs. It also means no trying to sell something on our site unless it is related and posted appropriately.

Hopefully nobody sees these as too harsh.

Sparrowhawk,

There is another 130 forums on this site that are not anti-psych. Why don't you post in them?

What are you gaining from this

So, you have an idea of what this thread should be?

What is it? Besides the obvious "Anti-" thread.

How does presence in this thread make a problem.

I have showed exacly my intentions..so what is the problem?

Let's be more precise..with me? You.. don't know me...and I don't know you!

You seem to see me as threat...I can't see it.

What is this threat I give?

I'm not your enemy, but you still want to be.. what is the problem!

What is the threat?

sparrowhawk,

you need to back off here....drop whatever it is you are trying to bring up. Guest and "Devil" are trying to let this ...whatever it is between you all...drop and you seem to want to try and keep something going. If you want to continue to post ...in any forum...please make sure it is relevant to the current conversation....or start a new thread....you are welcome to post here but I think it's time to let go of all of this and move on to something else.

I recently read this thread from beginning to end. Sean, all I can say is that I GREATLY appreciate this website. I honestly don't know how I'd be doing right now if I didn't have it. It's a great way to learn and get help without putting yourself in any immediate emotional jeopardy (as the in-person situation can). I thank you for creating it. Please don't allow one or two individuals to piss in your Cheerios.

To the person whose negative input contributed to starting this thread, I have my own mind. I WON'T allow someone to tell me what I should think, and if I feel like telling people that my shrink and meds helped me, I will do so. That's my choice and I won't allow you or anyone else on this forum to dictate my opinions and beliefs. You insult every person who's ever contributed here by suggesting that we are merely puppets of the industry. :x

By suggesting that I am nothing but a lemming  , you have become the one trying to exert unfair control. Are you saying that I CAN'T tell people the positive effect of drugs and therapy I experienced? That makes you the tyrant, not Sean.

By the way, until I read your posts I had no awareness of a group called NAMI. Now I know, so doesn't that make you a promoter? Thanks for alerting me to their existence.

Yes, this anti-psych forum is a great place for people that have been traumatised by psychiatric treatment to give each other support. Many other psych support forums do not support psychiatric survivors.

Thank you for this place Sean.

Chickadee,

I found this site that gives the survivors perspective of the NAMI if your interested.
