most psychologists don't care about helping people..

most of them are into themselves. it's either about the money or what fame they could get off of their psych research. you know... the only time somebody really gets help is if they're experiencing psychosis or something like that. that's about it. you can be crying for help and these people will tell you not in these words but they'll tell you to "###$ off". to them, your pain doesn't matter of them period.

this is coming from a hands on experience. like really.. psychology is one of those public service/safety fields which concerns public safety by the care of certain individuals. these people don't realize that they're dealing with something serious. honestly, i think the government should start cracking down on these people because some of them are actually harming to the well being of society. you know.. i'll go as far as to say that a lot of these school shootings wouldn't happen if these psychologist were doing their jobs. you know... it's their jobs to figure out what the ###$ is wrong with whoever comes up to them. for real... the virginia tech shooter as well as the columbine shooters should have killed whichever psychologist/therapist they got sent off to before the shooting because they failed.

From my own 'hands on' experience, I've seen ones that fit your description here. However, I have also seen others who genuinely seem to want to help patients. As I sad elsewhere on this site, the system is structured such that most who get to the level of doctor/psychiatrist/etc are competent at what they do; and that the 'players' are weeded out.

I have no problem with psychologists. I found all my psychologists to be helpful.

I have more a problem with psychiatry, which labels people as delusional, anosognosia (a nonsense term for lack of insight) and commits people against their will.

I spent a year and a half in a Womens Trauma Ward of a Psychiatric and Drug rehab Hospital- As an in-patient. This has given me an inside look at both other patients experiences as well as Psych docs and Nurses. Day in and out they see people at their worst.
By FAR the most of the people I met wanted to throw their entire life's worth of problems at the Doctors and say "Fix and save me." And when they didn't get an easy fix they acted like animals. Temper tantrums like 6 year olds. Patients treated the staff in the most horrible ways. Said the most horrible things to them. The Staff has to take this from ungrateful people daily. By far the majority of people would not take responsibility for their own illness. Imagine a career where you have to put up with that! I could do it.
Time and again I saw looks of shock and gratitude from Docs and Nurses who were simply given some appreciation. They are just people, not machines. They helped save my life and I will always have nothing but respect for them. When they see people who really want help they are amazing.
In my opinion, people who like to make such over generalized statements about Mental Health Professionals are distracting themselves from their own issues. Are there Awful Doctors and Nurses out there? Sure there are, but I wouldn't let a chip on my shoulder keep me from going and getting help from a different one. There are many who do care and I hope all who need one find one that fits their needs and doesn't give up looking.
With Hope,

The way you write it sounds like you see that as a problem.

Because as a simple statement of fact it sounds reasonable enough and not a problem.
Who isn't into himself or herself? A paedophile priest perhaps?; but not a typical psychologist.

Psychologists are just people trying to do a job (largely thankless job at that), not machines after all.
If you know what you want, and ask for it, I imagine you will get a simple answer as to whether your wants can be fulfilled.
But folks sure ain't mind readers.

Dear Pazzy,

You sound a little disappointed and bitter. Sure there are Mental health Professionals who go into the field because they want to fix their own problems. I personally think they are in the minority. Most MHPs genuinely like people and want to help people and I'm sure they start their careers full of enthusiasm to do just so. If you are disillusioned because they can't "help" you, don't doubt that they don't feel the same disillusionment too. It is a tough job to have to absorb people's emotional pain and despair and they are only human - they burnout too. Everyone starts their career with the exuberance and optimism of youth thinking they can save the world. Then reality intrudes and they come to the painful realization that they just can't "fix" some peoples problems.
